Hi.

I have just bought a combined gym/pool membership becuase i really want to move my diving skills to another level. The problem im having is that it is very hard for me to stay out of the water for just one day.. So im planning on combining my swim and gym session. So my question for you guys is this.

Would there be any problem in first going to the gym for i.e. 1 hour and do cardio, breast and ab workout and then go to the pool an do 30 mins or so of dynamic training (not pushing any limits though) Or would it be better to do it the other way around? First the dynamic training and then the fitness session.?

Of course i keep breaks in between.. relaxing in the shower and sauna before i go an do dynamic.

Anyhoo what do you guys think?

I don't think you will improve your apnea abilites much by such training, but it would be great if in the dyn session you concentrate on technique etc.

If you push too hard, you will probably just end up with more damage than good.

I would also recommend eating well in between - which may cause problems for your dive session.

Hey guys,
I read as many of these forums as I can, and try to learn as much as possible. But I dont understand some of the words you use? Like "dynamic training". Whats that?

thanx trux, I want to start training before summer gets here so that I dont miss out on anything. You folks have all been realy helpfull, thanx again !!!

In my opinion it is more evective to seperate the training segments. I also go to the gym and there for example I just train one area of my body. Arms and back, instead of legs and then the other way. And its important for the body to have a break and relax.

The other thing is, you said that you want to go to the sauna in the break to relax. I dont think its the best idea to go first in the sauna and then do a dynamic training.
Yesterday i was in the bath and just did some fun dives. I wanted to do a max attempt at the end but i was in the sauna before and I didnt even reached the 50 meters. I was very angry and I think it was my fault to go to the sauna first. Usually I dont have any problems to reach the 50 meters.

Deeply, Kai

Fanx folks!
you should check the thread posted by Ricochet about the apnoetrainer software, I downloaded it yesterday.
Its a great way to practice breath holding and pass time at work

If you have to swim every day swop days, doing your dynamics one day and concentrating only on that, then the next do your swimming as a cardio workout and warmup before you move on to weight training. Also if and when I get to a proper gym I prefer to concentrate on specific areas on different days like Id do the back and shoulders one day and abs and arms the next, and then also change your routine from time to time it allows for better results or thats what I found. :)

Henjon,
Personnaly I recommend the workouts on DotFit.net - Workouts / Published
My midsection and leg strength has increased tremendously since I started on them and I can power down faster for the first meters without tiring myself. My bottom is deeper and I stay longer as well, less exhaustion, lots more comfort.

Check out also the articles on sledgehammer training to build shoulder strength, it helps a lot for crawling.

The best part about these exercises is that they only take a few minutes. Also most don't require warm-up and the risk of injury is very low. Also no equipment is needed except for a sledgehammer which is cheap.

These workouts are very time-efficient and you can get an excellent full-body workout at home in 14 minutes.
