A friend (scuba diver) sent me this link: http://www.fishonline.org/
for the Marine Conservation Society (is this the same org Huan recommended?).

A few points of interest:
  • list of fish that they consider ok to eat
  • a list they think we should not eat
  • a detailed list of fishing methods & whether they consider them "sustainable" or not & an explanation of why
(spearing, rod fishing, diver gathering and handlines score well because of selection & lack of environmental damage).

(Would be interested to hear what others think of the details.)

nice website! if only it were on a more global basis and not UK/Europe specific...

Yes, I see what you mean. Although it mentions some fish, birds & techniques from more exotic climes (Chilean fish, albatross, long lining, etc.) & has a UN world fishing map, its focus seems to be NE Atlantic. Good to see folk around the world are interested in improving fish stocks though.

Mr. X, that's fantastic! You can't imagine how much I am happy to read that the british Marine Conservation Society has a correct idea and a positive feedback about divers' harvesting.
Thanks for hi-lighting this, mate: it will be useful in arguments.
