I just took my 5 mil freedown suit from Elios out for a cruise.
Holy Crap! This suit is hot!! I mean the air was warm today - but theres no way the bay is above 40F at depth - after 90 minutes I was disgustingly warm! I mean REALLY - it was not even refreshing!

It's not the wetsuit, it's you. You are hotter than Yamamoto.

I showed a picture of yourself to lotsa pretty, horny, vicious mediterranean girls and ALL of them spouted the same comment: "girl, this man is sooooo freakingly....HOT!"
(yes, we have a word for "freakingly" in italian).

And so everything makes sense.

'Freakingly...' hmm..

I think you have explained something.

As I left the water some young women - who were probably not Italian (but one never knows) or even Mediterranean - asked me this question:

"How is the water?"

I replied: "It feels kinda warm...I'm really hot.."

This seemed to make them all smile knowingly.. which made me think at the time that they understood that being too warm can be uncomfortable.

Yepp I have one 5mm elios freedown yama 45 just like you and it's really hot you just wont to dive done to the thermoclin and cool of a little :p

I let some water leak in through sleeves, hood and under the belt when the warmth becomes too much to be okay (talking of a 5 mil Yamamoto jacket). It brings immediate relief.
Maybe in your case the "sloshing" water in can be a pain, as we're not talking of the same temperatures between your and mine enviros. But horses of courses, when it's too hot cool it down.

I did open the hood and let water in - I was so warm it helped only for a moment! Now the wind has changed and the surface temperature has dropped 20F in a few hours - now about 7c - should be much better :)

Also - the cooler weather has frightened away the women.

My lake is 7°C in february (coldest water of the year here), and most of local freedivers use a 7mm+2 mm undersuit+mm bermuda, and still bitch about the cold. Last week I went in with my Yama 5mm, it was 14°C, and I felt I was fed up with cold after one hour.

Maybe individual perception is a factor, or maybe your Yamamoto is hotter than mine (could be)

my lake:

What terrible lakes you have.

We change to 3 mil at 16 - 18c - of course if we are only diving for an hour a 3 mil is good down to 12 or so with a 2 mil vest. We also refer to myself in plural because our machismo is so great that we pretend it is distributed amongst multiple us's in order to make it less threatening.

In my Heiwa suit we usually do some monofin sprints now and then to keep warm when it is below 6-7c - I have a 6 mil suit, but we cannot stand to wear it - it makes us feel like I am wearing a submarine and becoming gay (not that there is anything wrong with that).

What terrible lakes you have.

You say terrible? I say Obscene! This lake is shaped like a, ehm, an erected male organ, with gonads and pubes and everything.
This is why we have to prevent the cold in our sensitive districts: the Gods of the everhard phallic lake just hate flaccid appendices and take a shrunk willy as blasphemy.

See it with your own unbelieving eyes.

In America the Republican Party would never permit such a lake.

Our lake is mostly devoid of sexual implications. Perhaps that is for the best..

I dive mostly in the left one.

Of course, there is this:

As far as phallic symbolism goes, the shape of your lake is ok: its flaccidly pointing downsouth is an invitation for peaceful, family friendly, total relax holidays.
Nothing like those scandalous italian erected lakes, obscenely blinking at pagan Gods.
Your'e lucky to live in such a pleasant no-nonsense spot!

But do you think the hand-shape of our state of Michigan - immediately adjacent to such a flaccidly penile body of water - implies onanism?

My boy,
sometimes the answer is in the question.

In the big picture of creation, it's hard to believe that such things are casual, random, or meaningless.

For example, ever wondered yourself why is Italy such a kick ass country?

And yet, don't thigh-high high-heeled boots seem a tad, shall we say; baroque?

Baroque, correct. Now rather outfashioned by "Art Nouveau" thigh-high high-heeled boots, as it pleased to the Gods...:)

Wow, this thread is fantastic. Never before have I felt so dirty reading about wetsuits and water!
