G'day all,

The names Nicko, I'm 43, originally from Portsmouth UK, but have been on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia since 1997.

Have been scuba diving and surfing on & off for nearly 20 years around Indonesia and Oz, always been a keen pool swimmer, and the in the last couple of years, have become really interested in spearfishing, free diving and apnea swimming...Yoga too!!!

Have been hand spearing the Tweed occasionally but am now in the process of kitting up with a gun and really want to get out into some open water and have a crack at some of the great Pelagics that run through our waters.

I'm looking to gain knowledge in all areas of spearfishing and free diving and greatly value the experience of others and am glad that so many are willing to share theirs on Deeper Blue.

See yous around

Welcome to Deeperblue. There is a lot of information on freediving and spearfishing on this site, so do feel free to look around. Have fun!

Cheers MrX

Thanks for the welcome into the forum here.

I especially like reading what you guys are up to back in Blighty as I used to fish bass commercially along the south coast with two of my uncles in the late nineties. Never even heard of spearfishing till I came to Oz! Mind you with all the silt on the bottom of the channel and the lack of any vis. I'm not sure I would have even tried it back home.

We used to catch the Billies in around 30m of water with rods and often had +600lb days on a good set of tides. But I've had my fill of angling and murdered enough fish to last me a life time, so it's good to choose the fish and just take what I eat.

Although we have some really good eating fish here in Qld, I'd love to shoot some Bass!
