Hi Spearos -

My name is Paul and I have been spearfishing in the Caribbean for 20 years, using a Mares Long Tom. I was always snorkeling somewhere as a kid, inspired by SEA HUNT and FLIPPER reruns on television. It was only a matter of time before I grabbed a tank.

There's a number of schools that offer 2-3 day courses. Which is best?

Hi Spearos -

I believe that I should have specified that I was looking for freediving/apnea schools.

Thanks

Hey, welcome to Deeperblue. Have you gotten an answer to your questions yet? PFI and SSI offer freediving classes all over the place.

Welcome to Deeperblue. Which courses are you referring to?

Hi! Thank you for the warm welcome. I hadn't received an answer to my inquiry until now. In the meantime, I have been looking at videos, (Oceans in Action I & II, One Fish Gone East) and I started reading a book (Manual of Freediving, Umberto Pelizzari). I wrote to the forum because I am a PADI Adv OW diver and I wanted to get a thorough understanding on how to hold my breath 3-4 minutes if possible. At the moment, I am just 1.75 minutes; the last 15 seconds will require apnea training.

Thanks for the referral, BatRay.

Welcome @PalmCoco - i've merged your two threads together to make it easier to read.
Hello Papa Smurf,

Thank you for your patience. I had to get a friend to help me interact (a few weeks back) in this, my first forum experience. I was experiencing difficulty in navigating the site, and when it said POST NEW THREAD, I tried to introduce myself, but of course, many different threads appeared and I was prompted to submit a valid thread. Whew! I'm glad that's over, but I owed you an explanation.

I don't have any dive photos yet, because GoPro wasn't out when I was doing my Mike Douglas act. But I want to trade in the Aqua Lung for the Apnea. I look forward to posting my dive photos as soon as I have some suitable material. Dive safely.

No problem! Forums can be sometimes a different experience so any issues you have just ask!
