A different neckweight

It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Be careful. The glue of the tape may react with the lead. My Dad made such experiences. The glue becomes a bit liquid and smears a lot after a while. And yes; it was a very good tape.

Another option could be this type of tube, electricians use to isolate cables. The stuff you put over the cable, and when heated it shrinks onto the cable. It´s available in different diameters up to quite big ones.

I don't have any pictures, but one finnish diver has a pretty cool neckweight that he made by simply buying a sort of lead bar. It's used in auto repairs so repairshops or spare parts stores might have them. Sorry I don't have an english name either.

Simply, bought it, cut a piece, bend it it u-shape, protect the surface with some shrinking tube. Easy, streamlined an looks good.

The stuff is not 100% lead I think, but it's "close enough".

P.S sgnips's weight looks really cool (well cool to freedivers anyway). I've been meaning to experiment with something like that. I mean spread the weight in anatomical shape around the back neck and shoulders - fill in the "gaps" so to speak. Should be more comfortable and perhas better hydrodynamically too. Wearing 6.5 kg on one tradinitonal style weight is really unfomortable. And people have bigger weights than that.

6.5 kg on the neck? you might attach it to a sled...
does anyone really wear something like that on DYNs? or maybe it is something to use for spearing in shallow cold cold water and a thick thick suit?

I don't think 6kg is that uncommon actually, the "big boys" have even 8 to 10 kg

yep shallow water BIG lung capacity means a lot of weight to prevent positive buoyancy when in the glide phase between stokes (not to mention with the added weight your momentum is better so the glide is more effective)

Try finding a photo of Dave M or Tom S in their dynamics. I seem to remember Walrus had a pretty hefty lump of lead too...

Hello.
I build one neck weight. This is the first model, tested one time so far but it works ok. weight is 3.0 Kg.

Looks good! Just make sure it is loose enough not to limit the blood flow in carotids.

Now I built weight nr2. It have a space inside where to put balance weights. Balance weights are not ready yet but my goal is to have a variable weight from about 4kg to 5.5 in steps of 50g. The volume are about 0,4dl less/4kg than normal neckweights.

i wonder what's the reason why you chose to put it on the front side of your neck: better balance?

I don't know. Its just felt natural. Its easy to drop, if necessary. And balance may bee better. And I think it have good hydrodynamics. And its not interfering my arm stretching. I use it for pool swiming DYN,DNF.
