as the new season in the adriatic sea is aproaching I would like to share with you and the community of the deeper blue forum a story of catching a 23 kg brown grouper in the near of Dubrovnik. My dive-friend Mario had the privilige of the first shot at aproximately 6m. After securing the line at the coast he was so kind to let me finish the retrieval of the pray or maybe he estimated that the depth and the size of the matter is too large for him. The fish was at the entrance hall of a large cave wich are characteristic for the south coast of the adriatic sea entailed by the massive waves of the wind "jugo". The fish was inklinated in the right part of the wall with the big caps over it gils. The fish, due to the good and fast reaction of the hunting partner, couldn´t escape far into the whole. After checking the situation with enough ilumination I decided - the cave was at 18m - to secure the exceptional fish with another shot from my Bleutec Raptor 110, equiped with one 6mm thick and 140cm long Sigalsub pole with one barb and a 20mm circular band cut to 60cm by shooting in the near of the first shot behind the head of the grouper. 20min later, due to the bleeding of the fish, I was able to extract with a octopushook the fish out of the cave. The way back to the surface was also straight forward. It was a pleasure to accomplish the catch of a big grouper in such a uncomplicated way in an beautiful environment of the croatian south coast.
