hello,

Does anybody know anything about freediving/spearfishing in Africa, Tanzania, Tanga, Pemba island?

Thankyou Johnny :wave

I know the Mozambique coast is good for game fish, so I'm sure the waters are plentiful there too in Tanzania. Plenty South Africans and the odd Zimbawian or two travel up by 4 x 4 for vacations so look out for the well equiped travelling 4 x 4'ers with eskies full of cold castle and you should find the odd spearo, camping sites are a good place to look.

If you get to Zanzibar Johnny, try Kizimkazi, it's the southern most tip of the island, pretty deep waters there and you'll have the chance to freedive with dolphins but be careful from all the motorised fishing boats, they take tourists out to snorkel and are darting about all over the place chasing after the dolphins to get the touristas in prime spots, poor dolphins, maybe try a few km away from that point, but not sure what the currents are like, ask locals, was about 8 years ago I was there.....

You based in espana???? I'm looking to do some summer freediving in the med, p.m. me if your interested, I just am looking for a spot with cheap flights and I guess Barcelona ain't bad from the U.K.

Anyway any questions regarding Africa, let me know, i used to live there... For freediving lake malawi takes some beating, can tell you some spots to try.

Ciao!

Paolo

If you're staying in Mombasa, and heading south, there's a campsite / lodge at Tiwi Beach called Twiga Lodge. From there you can walk down the beach to Barracuda divers, and they are happy to take freedivers out ( not sure about spearos though ). Anyway, quite a few coastal Kenyans go out spearing and have boats, so you'd easily find someone.

Me and the missus were out there at Christmas, and went freediving with a Whale Shark.

Top moment.
