Hello everybody,
for those who don't know me, my name is Gabriele Satto and i'm writing here as the Aida Italy representative

I'm glad to take this opportunity to give you all this great news for Italy

After a over-one-year long negotiation, failure and another negotiation, we finally set up an agreement with FIPSAS (the local CMAS)

With this agreement, Fipsas and Aida recognize their own role about freediving in Italy, and Fipsas allows its athletes to compete in Aida comps

This is a great achievement for us, ending up a lot of controversies born in the previous years

I'd like to thank the FIPSAS crew (mr Azzali, uw section president of Fipsas and mr Matteoli, Fipsas president) and my friend Leonardo D'Imporzano, former Aida Italy representative who initiated this nice work last year

Here is the document (i translated it pretty quickly and i'm no professional in this, so it might not be 100% the same as the italian version, but it surely makes sense )

Yay excellent news Gabriele, about time - well done, no more lawyers! ;-)

Indeed exciting news. Italy is besides France the world's most important nation in freediving (from the point of view of the number of organized sportive freedivers), so the final consolidation of FIPSAS and AIDA is really a huge event. Until now, it was practically only the Italian CMAS who blocked the further development of the AIDA-CMAS cooperation, so it is very nice to hear the worst hurdles were overcome.

I guess the change in the managment probably played a huge role, hence I send big cudos to all involved, although I know little details about the deal.

Since I am little bit more informed about the background fight between AIDA and CMAS on different levels in the past, I think I appreciate this news much more than the average freediver, and realize that it can have immense influence on the future of the sport on global level.

Funny, that just in the time AIDA and CMAS finally seem to start finding the way to live together, there is a third major player in the competitive freediving emerging - the SSI is told to be preparing a series of freedving competitions. So even if the AIDA-CMAS conflict gets finally resolved, freedivers do not need to be afraid of a monopoly, and we still can expect some evolution due to healthy competition :)

Many thanks for your hard work on the AIDA-CMAS deal, and hoping for a fruitful future,
Ivo

maybe now we can make some protectionism on our competitions :t
just kidding of course

i'm very glad you appreciate, i'm sure the hard times are yet to come: this is a big thing but still represents the tip of the iceberg for me and the Aida Italy team
we have to build up a duopoly  by now and that's not gonna be as easy as it seems

thanks again and keep believing in us
