All-Terrain Wetsuit Socks?

Hey All,

I went to Palos Verdes last weekend and my wetsuit socks (cheap ones by "IST" are now literally useless as I'm now walking 25% barefoot in them due to tears. This is mostly due to the fact that getting to PV point (my now favorite spot) involves a steep hike with gravel and small sharp rocks the whole way down/up.

I've seen Riffe's socks, and they look pretty sturdy, but does anyone make a lace-up, hard-soled "sock"? Or at that point is it technically a boot?

I'd buy a pair of the Riffe's and try em out, but I don't want to ruin those as well. If I have to wear hiking boots down to the water I guess I'll accept it... :head

I just wear some 5$ Crocs and carabiner them to my spearo float or hide them on shore somewhere. There are hard-soled 'socks' out there, but they're for open-heel fins- usually scubadivers.

You might also try your local surf shop. I dive with a buddy who has a pair of socks with a med. stiff sole that fits his full boot fins.

Look for socks with a kevlar fabric bottom. These will last quit a long time. Alternatively, when I used to dive PV, we used to do as you said, wear another pair of shoes and just stash them at the base of the trail.

I'd suggest checking out the Argos socks that Speargun and Freediving Equipment carries. Most of us have been wearing them all over NorCal for at least a season and they're still going strong.

Otherwise, just throw a pair of sandals on over your socks and roll that way.
