Clutch, thanks guys. I was online ordering parts for work when I found myself looking at spearguns and the clock said midnight......HMMMM wonder how that happened. Ha Ha Ha!!! I was reviewing the Euro X series, but it's out of my price range. Thanks for the lead Blaiz I'll check it out. Joel thanks for the invite man. My wife's family are all California people. She's going out to visit for a month this summer. She moved from Kaui to Malibu after her mom died and was living LA until she had a change of heart and headed back to the islands; where we meet and as they say the rest is history. I won't be out that way for a couple years due to how much I'm currently working. However, just knowing that there are other good people out there pumps me up. If you ever come over to the East coast there is a turnament in Hatteras and Cobia run in Virginia Beach in the fall. We'll fire up the grill, cook fish drink beer, and let my bonfire pit roar!! I'll drop a line later, I'm back on the clock.

Alex,

I have heard about the tourny at Hatteras and I would love to get the shot on some cobia or pomps you guys have on the east coast. Yeah brother next weeks or next years, the offer stands. I cant offer Cobia but if you get here in the spring / summer I can offer up some chances at some White Sea Bass and Yellow Tail.

Good luck on the gun hunt, but you have found the right place for advice, the "worlds best" are here on this site, from building to buying, someone somewhere has an answer for you.

good luck
Joel

Solid. Do you actually get to see white sea bass? I have read and heard that they are extremely elusive. Is this true? Also, I have never eaten one; are they good? I made an addition to my current training and have started doing run/swim/runs and for the swim I do laps underwater. I hold my breath and do 25 yards then come up. I do that 10 times and then I double it, down and back for 50 yards 10 times. Then I swim some easy laps hop out and finish with a couple miles at a moderate jog. I am also carrying weights underwater doing "walking laps". Do you think that will help my breath hold as much or even some compared to the apnea running and laps? The underlying factor is that my breathold stinks when I'm finning around and I want to make it better, alot better. I finally got some of my pics from my friend Andre'. They're just me filleting fish and the finished plate, but i'm going to post it to the cooking/recipes section some time this weekend. Check it out if you have the time. I'm going out Saturday weather permitting, hopefully it will be good.

Alex,

Yes we get the chances to see them and take them too. Last season was my first season targeting this species and I was fortunate enough to actually pull off on one in the Palo Verde kelp and land it. This is the picture i use as my avatar. It was an amazing day!! It weighed 35 lbs, the largest fish I had every taken.

Yes they are in my opinion the best tasting fish in our local waters!!
We even had a little sashimi style.

Before last season I had only used a pole spear. Diving and hunting local coves, reefs and sand channels. Usually targeting Halibut, sand and calico bass, corbina and Halibut.

I believe that the years spent diving and polespearing have really helped my technique when I decided to switch up to using a gun. Now I am hooked!!!

I still love using my pole spear, noting like warm summer water, just trucks no wetsuit or weightbelt and hunting corbina in the surf zone. GOOD TIMES!!

Man you are seriously working on you breath hold trainning. You make me feel lazy as I train mostly all static while in bed doing my tables. I get most of my training by diving atleast once a week and trying to impress my 5 year old son with how many times I can swim back and forth under water in our pool on one breathrofl

Good luck this weekend,

joel

Alex,

I just thought I would let you know that for more information on the White Sea Bass or anything hunting for that matter look for the posts by Bill McIntyre.

He is someone that has is down!!

Thanks Joel. You going out fishing this weekend? If you are good luck. I'm doing it tommorrow no matter what. I need a break or I'm gonna be a mean human. Not Bueno to stay out of the water for more than a couple days. Let me know how you do if you go out. I think I'm gonna surf the net and find some replacement parts for my gun and shop around a little more for a new one. Take it easy,
Alex.:friday

Wow man you are an animal! One of my favorite ways to train is what we call "running rock" similar to what your doing in the pool. We go out to some of our local beaches and run underwater holding big rocks. I havnt had the time to do it much lately and my diving has deteriated a little. Could also be the beer to though:t Make sure with all this training, especially any apnea in the water, you got someone watching or training with you. Hate to hear about someone SWB in a pool training!:blackeye

Alex,

If you would be interested in a Rob Allen 100cm TUNA 1000 with the Vecta grip double 16mm bands and the Stainless Steel RA reel with approx 125 or so feet of dynema line.

I am getting rid of one to make room for my new Wong hybrid coming next week.

Hello very nice intro, I'm new to the sport of spearfishing and kinda new to the area of virginia beach. Do you have any spots were myself and a buddy might be able to do some recreational free diving and spearfishing without using a boat?
