I am having a hard time during my course training to equalize my ears. I have tried squeezing my nose and blowing, moving my jaw and swallowing. The only thing that seems to work is blowing with my nose squeezed and swallowing at the same time. Do yall know of any alternative ways I can try and equalize? Any help would be great for this newcomer to SCUBA.

Casey

Hey Casey,

What you're doing sounds spot on, so try pre-pressurising a few hours before you dive, and again just before you dive. Blow your nose beforehand as well. Don't forget to pressurize every meter for the first 3 meters, then every 2 meters after. Take your time descending and ascending. It will get easier with practice.

Hold your nose and make a hard letter "K" sound from the back of your throat. You have to blow a little to make the "K".
Hold your nose and swallow.
Hold your nose, look up and blow.

That "K" trick opens my ears up too quick sometimes. Do it well before your dive, and before you go under. But gently, don't over do it.
