anxiety:Is it a contraindication to diving...?

One fo Grimm's fairy tales is about rather dimwitted young man who didn't understand what it meant to shudder in fear. People attempted to shock him by putting him in all sorts of terrifying situations- but no avail. He finally did shudder, though not out of fear. He was asleep when someone poured a bucket of cold water and wiggling fish on top of him

Something is wrong with us if we're never afraid.
Fear is the natural human reaction to any difficult or dangerous undertaking, and God doesn't condemn it.
Neither does He want us to be cripple by fear.

Courage is not the absence of fear but the mastery of it.

Jesus'words to His disciples on more than one occasion were," Don not be afraid" . In other words, He told them," Don't keep on fearing."

blessing

Daniel.

:hmm

Years of studying the Bible and Koran have not improved my breath-hold ability one bit...

Fear is psychological reaction. The classical flight or fight reaction of any animal. You get over it by understanding what it is you are afraid of.

I think that I've read where Meghan Henny-Greier is very into her Christian beliefs-and that's what makes her comfortable in the water.

I thought that I read an article about it in a old issue of FREEDIVER. I think that she was having a "disccusion" with Mayol about it and was contrasting her beliefs with his philospohy. They each had their own "belief" system that worked for them and that was all that matters.

Daniel has his, and he feels very comfortable sharing his beliefs with others. I am very glad that it works for him.

In the end, I think "whatever get's you through" is a personal choice- and one you should stick with.

For me it's never pushing myself past my boundries. I may never break a record, but that's not why I freedive.

It's also why I adopted a DIR system for scuba diving- after having to rescue too many strokes who couldn't read a pressure guage because they were too narked.:duh Diving with other like-minded people gives me the comfort to push depths and times without any anxiety.

just my $0.02
