Any Fabricators Out There_ Wanna Brainstorm

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 90 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
After looking at most local sources other than the scrapyard that is a 30min drive away.....My best bet for spear shafts is 1/4" SS 6' long (3 spears) for $15.

Since I am making shorty guns and keeping to smaller 5# +/- fish and closer ranges....3-9'............is a .25" spear gonna cut it?

Have you ever heard of a brass spear??

I had an idea awhile back but it envolved using epoxy and carbon or fiberglass to be the
outside shell of the gun .You can get different densitys of foam and the density you get will also determine the hardness and bouyancy unweighted.I would not be very hard to make and mold the bodies but some work would probaly need to be done post glassing .
Also from my experiance with the foam it gets really dense on the outside next to the mold but is less dense inside which isn't a problem if it's glassed.
 
The foam that is most readily available to me is a high density polyurethane, it is used for forming structural ribs inside fiberglass boats. This type of foam is very well tried & tested & has been in use for 30 years.
A cheaper alternative is a similar product use in house insulation, this can often be found in 8'x4' sheets & up to 6'' thick.
The beauty of polyurethane foam is its ability to absorb polyester resins (fiberglass) resulting in a strong & ridged product.
