I Was Snorkeling At Snoopy Island In Fujairah,UAE When I Suddenly Noticed A Red String With Orange Balls On It (See Drawing). Me, The Idiot That I Am Went To Touch It. It Stung My Hand And I Was Left With A Burning And Throbbing Pain In My Hand. After A Minute A Bump Forms Around The Area I Was Stung. (Total 26 Bumps). Can Anybody Give Me A Hint To What This Species Is?

I try to avoid jelly fish but I seem to get a tiny sting or two about every 2 years - usually from the long tentacles of tiny jellyfish which can be very hard to see. I almost swam into a huge barrel jelly fish once - the first I'd ever come across, there were a lot that year - I dread to think what a sting from a jellyfish of that size (they are the size of a beer barrel or dustbin) might do.

I once got a very bad sting on my face when I accidentally brushed my cheeck against a large sea anemone while diving off St. Michael's Mount in Cornwall, it seemed to get right inside my hood. I had a nasty blistering patch on my face for several weeks afterwards (there is probably an image on the forum somewhere of it!).
