When diving at night avoid using a torch, they go out when you get them wet.:t I would suggest a flashlight.

Night diving seems to be a real craze this year.

You are so right Mr X I think it has a lot to do with the ever decreasing fish stocks. Different fish are available for hunting & others more vulnerable at night. Not sure if I agree with the effects of night spearing but it is definitely effective.

Sorry,:naughty but its a no no from here as well, its also illegal here in Cyprus to spearfish 1 hour after sunset. totaly agree with being fair, i wouldnt like to be shot at while trying to get some ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ,:):)

I have done some spearfishing at night in Cyprus. Since I had no buddy, I stuck to the part of the shore I had dived several times before. I speared one sizeable bass that found me attracted by Lumen 6 flashlight and then a couple of mullets. In Russia, folks do night spearfishing in rivers and lakes. Usually, someone stays on shore with a flashlight to guide spearos back on share

Hi Hyeparis, it depends on which side of cyprus, N/S, as the regs are very diferent, in the north we have fairer regs toward fish, so we have reasonable stocks, in the south you can fish without a license on breathhold and with a license on scuba, hence the low stocks of native fish(they buy sokan from our spearos/Boatfisher at a very good price. here its breathhold or nothing, and you legally should hold a license and night spearfishing is banned.

peter.

Hi, Peter
I meant the Republic of Cyprus, which you refer to as south.

Thank you. I have been there about eight times already, but I have alwasy stayed within the Republic of Cyprus and I have not intention of crossing the green line. I might go to Polis next time I go. I have an acquiantence there who is a spearfisher with a boat and who knows places one can find good groupers and tuna.
