dont mean to sound stupid but what is this apnea and static stuff all about? thanks for your help

Stupid????

First off welcome to DB.

Secondly, there are no stupid questions that have to do with freediving.

Apnea is just the fancy way of saying breath-hold.

Static Apnea is laying face down in a body of water (dead mans float) holding ones breath for as long as possible. It can also be done on land. The later is better for beginners as you could possibly black out and you wouldn't have to worry about being face down in the water.

Good luck and enjoy
