are full length fins really essential?

I got some Sporas from scubastore - before that I had Dacor Longblades - which are very soft and just a bit longer than usual. First speed run with the sporas I went down about 5 meters and poured it on - the line on my dive buoy was vibrating and a bunch of kids on the breakwall were staring with their mouths open. I found myself consistently surfacing way past where I thought I was. I like the sporas - I think the foot pocket on the cressi's is probably softer - more comfortable sans a sock. Freediving fins are really alot of fun and much more efficient. Well worth having.
