Well after reading through about 1000 posts i decided to go with the Seac asso 115

Picked it up this afternoon from the city for $299. Also grabbed a asso reel for $39, and some cheap line from a venetian shop.

Hopefully the weather is good as we have planned a trip out in the boat to search some shallow wrecks ..

With the gun i got 2 shafts(look identical), pump, loader and bag.

I also asked about mamba kits while i was there and they were like and i was like :head trying to explain it to them....

So when the time time($$$$) someone here can hopefully help me get a kit and work out what shaft to get

Well we got up this morning despite the weather forecast, and surprisingly the weather loooked good.
Got in the water around 9am as my mate wanted to sleep in(lazy) and headed out bout 15km to some reefs. By this time the forcasted 2metre sweel had arrived and it wasnt very pretty out there.
But we found a sheltered spot behind the reef and anchored up.
I fineally got ready grabbed my new toy and jumped in, and when i tried to load it OMG!!! i couldnt even budge the spear, so i grabbed my Cressi out and used it for a bit but was getting annoyed with the power.
So i jumped on board tried to move the spear out of water(i know wrong thing to do) but got it to budge(maybe a bit sticky from factory), so in i went and got the thing loaded. All i can say is after 2 shots my line snapped and i bent a shaft, so its back to the boat and swap it over for the spare and try again.
So after 3 spots we ended up with bugger all but had a great day out in the water.

What i cant understand though is that my cressi has 20bar in it and i can load that easy, but my new gun which i was told had 20bar in it is so hard, its like 4 times as hard to load?

P.S. if i get SS shaft will it bend as easy as the factory shaft?

Not the best start mate, there is definitely technique required to load these things.
I have a S/S 7mm spear for my asso & it has a mamba kit fitted, the pressure was set at 20 ATM (bar) when I received the gun. Like you I just couldn't move the spear at first! I let out some of the air & tried the gun with 15 ATM & found that much better, over a period I have gradually pumped the gun up to 24 ATM - Not exactly easy to load but the power is awesome!
My mamba 90 is set at 26 ATM & is quite easy to load in fact easier that my band guns of around the same length. The Asso 115 has huge power when pumped to 18 - 19 ATM but without the mamba kit will also have some kick-back & noise.
I have a pressure gauge & I regularly check the pressures of my air guns.
In you position I would save for & buy a Mamba kit & a gauge.

Well at 20 i can load it but it is hard work, especially cause im short and not in the greatest shape..Well im not out of shape cause round is a shape rofl rofl
Another thing i noticed is that the trigger was quite stiff, so i will have to adjust that
on the next trip.
Yes i am definately getting a mamba kit, hopefully in 4 weeks time.
But like onefish i dont know were to get and what to get as this is all new to me.

Are all kits the same(suit all guns) do i need to replace shaft(thick, thinner, longer)?

Also isnt the gun rated to 20bar and also doesnt that wear the orings out quicker and cause possible dmg to inner tube? But yeah the more power the better

Thx for info Fox..always appreciated

what a coincidence, today i was messing about with the mamba 90,its essentially an asso i believe, with 6.5mm spear...i had bought the manometer so i wanted to check the pressure...adjusted it to 20 ATM>.and loading was quite easy actually...i didnt load it of course just checked to see if it will move and it was quite easy..the challenge with the 6.5mm spear is that you have to hold it as you load else it will bend...
mongrel try to locate one of those manometer kits to check pressure, they could also be pimped to enable you to fill the gun froma scuba tank, so 30 seconds opening a tank valve instead of all that pumping
fox, how does it handle 26 ATM, whats the range like?

Go with Stainless spring steel...if the factory shaft is like the Cyranos...trash it, they're mierda... when you load put your free hand where the shaft has a tendency to bend (about 2-3" from the muzzle in my gun) then pull down hard and fast once your pass this "sticky point" its FART-O-RAMA for the fish...do you have a nknee loader or an extension?

Definately have an extension as im only 5'8" or 9..not sure.
I made the loder about 6 or 7" long and i can just make it from the foot.
Are spring SS shafts strobger then just SS shafts?
But then again i dont know if i can get spring SS in OZ

Thx for advice

Yep stronger but they'll bend and bend back ...that is the got some spring to them...I don't shoot with anything but SSpringSteel...another thing make sure you have that extension loader fitted perfectly an inch more or less can make a huge difference:blackeye

Alright i will have a look at getting one of those... cheers mate
Can u also tell me what length i need as i am getting a mamba kit soon and dont really wanna buy a shaft now and another in 3-4 weeks.
Worse case scenario could i get a shaft posted over or are they too long for shipment?

Thx again

My shafts extend about 3-4" past the muzzle on my 750 cyranos about 8" I use it to freeshaft in the keys while hunting the reefs, the extra length aids in holding down the fish also I can use it as a spare in my 950...I don't know how long it will take or how much it will cost but I can get you whatever size you need in Miami and send it to ya, I got a wetsuit from Spiros in Greece and it got here purdy fast and I think it was under $30...A shaft for a 115 would run you under $100 in SSS

Appreciate the offer mate

I will have a look round here first and if i cant find anything, i might take u up on the offer and maybe if possible a mamba or maori kit also hehe

I am not quite sure what you are after? I would of thought you gun came with a 8mm 130cm spear? When you buy your mamba kit you will be able to choose either a 6.5 or a 7mm system, you will want the 7mm! Then you can use a 7mm S/S spear, you can use the standard length for a 115 = 130cm or a slightly longer one of 140cm.
You could modify a standard 7mm spear designed to be used with a band gun if you can find one long enough so that you have 130cm from the front notch.

Jamie,

If you do end up getting a manometer, I would get it from Ramon (Kara-yo). That's if you can work out the international bank transfer (he won't use Paypal). Reasons are:
- Maorisub manometer = 50 euro
- Kara-yo manometer = 35 euro
- to use Maorisub manometer with Seac Asso you also have to change the valve in your gun to Mares valve and purchase a Marse pump (or use scuba tank). Ramon makes a couple different manometers, you would need to check with him if one suits the Seac Asso valve.
- Shipping for Maorisub manometer = 70 euro
- Shipping for Kara-yo manometer = 10 euro

Ramon has emailed me a catalog, I can provide it to you if you like? The Tovarich kit that I am purchasing is 60 euro delivered to me. This is in contrast to roughly 140 for Mamba delivered. And I like the Tovarich system better. For me it's a no brainer.

Cheers,
TJ

onefish, is it possible to post a link to kara yo here, i couldnt find them...

Ok i just purchased my SSS spear today, well they said it is Spring SS but it was $50.
ONEFISH Yes could u plz send me the link for the catalog as i would love to see it, also that is a cheap price for a mamba I AM VERY KEEN ON GETTING THAT.
In regards to a manometer i am keen also but that will have to wait till later plus i would only get it they can fit my gun without modifications.

Yes the gun came with 2 spears but both were standard spears NO STAINLESS, so thats all i was asking .....But as u can see in my previous post i grabbed one today

Well i hope its 7mm

Marwan, Ramon sent me the catalogue on an email. I don't think he has a web page. There is quite a bit of information on the Medfish forum: http://www.medfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2577
but you will have to join. Alternatively, if you PM me with your email address I'll forward a copy of the catalogue. Or you can always contact Ramon direct: karayokit@yahoo.es

Jamie, I sent you an email. Were you able to get the 7mm SS spear from Diveimports?

Cheers,
TJ

Reactions: Marwan
Yes mate i got a SS spear from them today, im hoping it was 7mm :S
They only do SS shafts for Asso 90 and asso 115, so thats probably why u were told no, unless u have an asso?

I just sent u an email mate thx for that
Also i went to the medfish link and though there was some interesting stuff all the pictures are gone
