After doing some statics on my couch I noticed that I needed to use my inhaler because I had started to have a small "attack"... I pulled off a new PB of 6 minutes and 17 seconds! Anyway, if I were to be breaking a world record (just wondering! :duh) and I pulled off the attempt and did the OK sign and everything would it be counted if I or asthmatic person used the inhaler before or after the attempt?

Thanks... I just had a quick look through and it says that I cannot inhale oxygen or high oxygenated substance prior to the dive... and also any other performance enhancing products are forbidden...
I still dont know if it is not allowed because I have no idea if an inhaler is considered a preformance enhancing drug... Oh well
Thanks again pyro,
Does anyone have any idea or can point out something that i have missed in the AIDA article?

The inhaler can be used to open airways and the ingredients of some were on the banned substance list. They do give waivers, I think. I wouldn't call it 'cheating' for you and the stimulant affect of the drug probably hurts your performance a bit, but if you're going to compete where there is drug testing, you'll have to check your medication against the IOC list.
Congrats on the 6:17.
Aloha

I don't know about the dopping regulations, but as a (mostly) former asthmatic, I'll recommend you to use those SOS inhalers as little as possible and I don't even know which you have.
I think that resisting the use of those inhalers outside of REAL SOS cases (when it's that or the hostpital) is what helped me to overcome my asthma. Instead of using an inhaler I tried to overcome the situation by working on relaxation and good calm breathing.
Those inhalers bring quick relief, but they incourage dependency and make you more suseptible for future asthma attacks.
I was threated by a specialist when I was young and she made me stop using those inhalers. At the age of 18 after not having an attack for 2-3 years I was consdiered as healed, after asthma was a common part of my life for the first 15 years.
Today I know that it can still come back from severe allergy reactions, but even then I rather take anti-histamines than use an inhaler.

O, and if it's performence increasing, I consider it as cheating ;). But congrats anway. :)

As a (mostly) former asthmatic (Hey DeepThought you're not alone !) I completly agree :
- Use relaxation instead of inhalers, and just train swimming, it's the best cure for asthma !
- Here in France I always keep an inhaler in my first aid pouch : It's called Ventoline, and I do know the substances involved in it are strictly forbidden from a competition & record breaking point of view.
Anyhow, 6'17'' makes it about twice my PB ... Congrat's Snorkel Bum !

The black baron is on my side!!
Ventoline was also what I used most of my youth. Along with some other steroid inhalers and pills for the more risk-prone seasons.
Nowdays I might have a few of them left in a drawer somewhere, but they are probably expired.
I feel no need to have one of those near me anymore - unless I'm traveling, then everything should be covered. The chances of me needing them seems to me close to a normal person's (very low), so has my specialist said. Difference is that I will know what I'm up against and react faster probably.

Hey Michael,
Just to mention : Referring to the Black Baron has very little to do with the famous German pilot WW1, but rather with a quite old & famous comic strip hero : a black vultur (ie Capitalism) systematically robbing few sheeps from the flock (ie the mass of poor workers)

So you're a capitalist predator. :D
Was'nt the pilot named "the RED baron"?
I wasn't thinking of him anyway, the black baron just sounds like someone you rather have at your side. :)

The comics sounds funny, but I don't really udnerstand french, the skillful translation of your name might have misled you. :).
Nor I have patience for comics ually. Somehow that form of media never attracted me.

You're right Michael,
The Red ones definitely outshones the Black one, and my ego should get lower :p
Have fun

Don't adjust your ego on my account, only girls should have the ability to elevate and destroy one's ego. :D
Nah, actually ego is virtual. Just like ethics in the stock market. :)

So what was this thread about anyway? :)
