Anyone using these besides the guys from North Dakota?

Atomic Aquatics - the World's First Titanium Regulator

I know that Fred and Roland swear by them for spearfishing, but no one near me seems to carry them and they are on the pricey side.

I have to say that the glass they are made of seems far superior to anything else I have looked through- got to try one on at Freedive-a-palooza this year.

I know that the single lens mask fits me, but I was interested in the double lens. I see that they have an even fancier one than Roland had- and it retails for $150 as well! :( I don't know if any mask is worth that, but the $109 model seemed to be pretty nice to me- and I think that Connor liked it as well.

It has a warranty on the two-lens mask that seems pretty good and I'm tired of my masks falling apart on me during regular use- Picasso, Sombra's; Aqualung, Flaco's; Aquasphere, Sphera's; Technisub, Marina's have all broken on me in less than a year. :rcard

I'm thinking that if the mask has a better warranty on it I might get more than a year out of it- which could even save me money in the long run. At least that's the story I'm telling my wife.rofl

How did the mask volume compare with other masks? Did you get to try the subframe or frameless? I would buy one if the cost before it needs replacing is less than just buying a new cheaper (cost) mask each time it broke. Of course the fact that you don't go through a mask each year is also nicer to the environment.

In your opinion do you think it is equally good for spearfishing as freediving to say 40-50 meters? Thanks for the info on a new mask, once my own finally fails (bad fit and always fogging!!!) I may just get one of these.

The one we all tried on was the single lens frameless. The glass way very clear, but the volume was a bit higher and I don't know that I would take it to 40-50 meters, but spearing down to 20-25 meters would be just fine.

I've never tried on their double lens mask but it looks to be lower volume than the single so you should be able to squeeze some extra depth out of it.

I tried the single lense mask and was blown away by the field of view. The glass is nice, but the field is unbelievable, far far better than anything else I've ever seen. Got to have one, but haven't found a source yet in this country. The single lense version is not a deep diving mask, volume is relatively high, but my spearing is in less than 50 ft. It will do just fine for that.

Hi Connor!

You can try it here
http://www.leisurepro.com/Prod/ATMM...l&AdvSrchSortField=Relevance&DescSort=0&Hit=1

right now it is out of stock but it might change any day, I already bought few out of stock items from them. You can also try calling them to speed up the process, they should be able to get it for You. Price also seems right compare to hundred bucks You guys are talking about.
I don't have this mask but I had Atomic scuba split fins for the last seven years, I also had a chance to try their titanium regulator. This is great company with great products.

A few of the guys at Hatteras were using these one piece framless masks and diving 30 meters or so. I think they must compress well. I can vouch for leisurepro being very accomodating. On there site Atomic says they have lens coating available that increases the amount of light that reaches your eyes.
The oceanic shadow looks worth a look too.

Hey guys, Imersion has a frameless single lens that looks just like that. It is called the Thazard. I haven't imported it because I didn't think anyone would be interested in a high volume mask for freediving or spearfishing.

:)

Jim,

You have to see the glass on this thing. No one wants to go high volume, but when you see the glass this thing is made out of you suddenly become willing to make sacrifices. I still haven't decided if i can commit the kind of cash needed to get one- they range in price from $90-$150!

Jon

howdy everyone.. yup.. I sure like that atomic for field of view... it sure is like looking through a picture window. After seeing Rolands last year I bought one for my wife.. the only plus of not having her along is usually I get her mask then. Spearfishing tournament in south dakota in a week and a half and i'm afraid wifey will be missing her mask...
Fred

I'd go with the frameless myself Jon. If it's visibility you're after why not go whole hog. Besides, I think the golden calf of low volume might be getting let out of the bag to run with the bulls of compressibility and visual field.
(how's that for a mixed metaphor)
Then again; you can get three spheras for the price of these things.

Maybe I can talk myself into buying one for spearfishing and freedives 30M or less, and then buy a sphera or micromask for deeper dives... why am I not a millionaire? I would have to get several years of use out of this to make it worth the cost right now.

Chris,
This thing may cost as much as 3 Spheras, but I've gone through 6 Spheras in the past 6 years- so I'd still be saving money if it lasts. ;)

I think I'd still prefer the double lens over the single. The view I was most impressed with was the clarity of the glass over the field of vision the single lens provided. I also think that by moving the lenses closer to your face, like a double lens mask can do, you actually can get better vision than by a huge single lens mask- kind of like contact lenses vs. glasses.

Fred,
Did you buy the standard one, that retails for $109, or the fancier one with the ARC lenses, that retails for $150?

Jon

One thing for sure; it'll be a sturdy little bugger what with the stainless steel nose thing and all that. I'll be interested to hear your review. I'd go for the fancy coating too - supposed to admit more light. Judging from the nasal protruberance the single lens job may not be all that bad volume-wise.

I just ordered the two lens version ,with the ARC lenses, through a local dive shop. It's going to take a few weeks to get here, long after my vacation is over:(, but I'll post a report on it once I get it.

Jon

I have the frameless for scuba and absolutely love it! I bought it for next to nothing as a backup mask and have used it as my primary every since. I have not tried freediving with it.

The two lens leaks on me :(

I'll take it diving tomorrow if the wind cooperates (it's been goofy with the storm coming) and tell you what I think. I'm using a Sphera now so it's tough competition.

Jon.. I don't know for sure what I got her.. but it was off the net for about $90.. just says "ultraclear" on the front of the mask.

I used it today while looking for lures.. it's just so great! I was in clear water and could see all around. Fantastic! I think I'm going to steal it from her. (since I bought it for her... is that really stealing??) Maybe I won't have to, she did say I could use it for the spearfishing tournament next weekend.
Fred

The dive shop I work at just started carrying Sea Dive masks. They use the same glass as the Atomic. Very clear stuff. Comfortable silicon skirts too. The single lens version is about $75.00. The 2 lens version is a little less.

I believe Atomic and Sea Dive are the only ones that use that glass. I was amazed at how clear the lenses were. The volume is slightly more than my Omer Alien, but still pretty low.

Visual Enhanced Mask

I used my wifes Atomic single lens mask at the spearfishing tournament last weekend. As far as I'm concerned it's the best mask out there for visibility.. I know I saw fish off to the side that I never would have seen with most masks out there.
BTW.. Roland and I did place 3rd in largest rough fish (2 man team, Roland got it, he had 2nd until the next day when someone bumped his fish to 3rd).. We also got bumped the second day by a fish 1oz. over the first place largest game fish that pushed my walleye to 4th.. We had a blast! Represented the freedivers pretty good I thought.. everyone else was scuba diving.
