This video really shows how 12 years has been an eternity in our sport. I just did the PFI intermediate course here and one student did a 5 minute static. His previous PB was something around 2 minutes.

The most alarming thing is the almost non-existent safety supervision. People are watching of course but that's just it. They are watching as divers are having problems, not assisting in an appropriate and timely manner. When the one English competitor has his samba the in water the safety isn't even watching! The safety only reaches over to guard his airway when the on deck official points out that the diver is losing it.

It would be hilarious, but this kind of ignorance killed people. I'm just thankful that people sat down, looked at what was actually happening and built the protocols and courses that we (I) take for granted now.

I bet in ten years I'll be looking back thinking "Man we were dumb in 2010!"
