Hello all :)....I am a 31 year old Mech Eng from Malta (tiny island South of Italy) with a passion for everything that has to do with getting wet in the sea...

I am beginner freediver. Beginner is a bit of a misnomer...I have grown near the sea my whole life and from the tender age of 6 I remember snorkelling for sea urchins and swimming all day long while I was off school! I have got my open water PADI scuba certificate in my early 20s and really enjoy scuba, swimming and some apnea spear fishing.

This year I have made it my mission to become a really good free diver & spear fisher. I have never been past 15m deep and up until a few weeks ago I would rush to the surface at the first sign of lung burn...now I can at least resist the urge and can spend over 1 minute underwater....on my new year resolution list I wrote dive to 25m on one breath :)

My best static dry breath hold is 3 : 15. I am very athletic and run around 8km three times a week, cycle & do some circuit stuff at the gym. I am not very lean though as I love my food :). Around 5'9 & 76 kg.

I have recently stopped doing freediving for this winter as my 5mm 2 piece suit is not nearly enough to keep me getting cold from the 16 deg. C water. I just get very cold after 45 minutes or so. I have a few questions for you guys:

1) Will a 7mm semi dry wetsuit be much better in cold water comfort department?
2) How long will it take me to reach my set resolution?
3) I have already started doing some CO2 & O2 tables befoer I sleep sometimes but still have to find the time to do them religiously! How much do these help?
4) I only do shore dives in around 15m max depth and fail to get any fish larger than 20cm or so..do you have any tips?
4) I have been reading a lot. Can you suggest a good book on freediving & spearfishing? Also do you have any more good advice re breath holding and general spear fishing for a newbie like myself?

Thanks in advance and hope I am welcome here!

Etienne
