hey. I found this forum through google while trying to find a way to increase the amount of time you can hold your breath. along the way, I've heard a few other things and so I have a few questions to ask. I hope you guys can help me out. Sorry that there's so many questions, but I'm curious and there's a lot I don't get.
1. Back when I was in middle school, I used to hold my breath each day just to see how long I could hold it, and then I stopped it when I heard that doing that kills brain cells. However, checking out the stuff I've heard here, that's false and that it actually does the opposite.. or, at the very least, isn't harmful and is actually mentally beneficial (ex. increases intelligence). is this true? Oh, and for anyone interested, I used to be able to hold it the very first time for nearly 2 minutes.. I think that was about 1 minute 47 seconds. Now I can't even do it for 1 minute.. absolute best time so far is 57 seconds.
2. I'm not sure if there's clubs or anything that are about diving here. Even if there were, I'm not able to reach places easily.. and even if that weren't an issue, I'm more interested in the benefits of diving (ex. increase in mental ability, larger lung capacity) than diving itself. So this is a 5 part question.
a) Can you recommend anything that I can do at home easily? Not counting anything dealing with going underwater, sorry. I can't even swim yet.
b) How should they be done? ex. 3 sets of 10 like in weight training or something like that.. or is there something different to judge it by? And what are the resting periods?
c) Once I get better at these, what are ways to increase resistance?
d) Are there any hazardous things I should avoid (ex. Stretch in weight training to prevent injury, proper form to increase strength and avoid injury, etc.)
e) When can I expect to see gains?
3. I read about an exercise in one of the threads here (http://forums.deeperblue.net/freedi...what-best-excersize-increase-breath-hold.html). I've been doing that, but I'm lost on how many of these to do or in what way, or for how long. I like doing them though.
thanks in advance. hopefully with your help, I can go from
