Has anyone else on this forum ever been constantly sick to the point where they stopped training?

How did you cope? Did it make you depressed? Did you still stick around on freediving forums, or did hearing everyone else's training tales just make you feel worse about the whole thing?

I'm just wondering if anyone else here has ever been in the same boat.

Lucky enough to have never been sick for a long period but over the years there have been plenty of times where I stopped training altogether and then started again monmths later, in fact its no harm to take a complete break from whatever your doing once in a while anyway. Even on the forum here and others somethiimes I am more active sometimes less so.

Thank you! That makes me feel better about this.

My instructor tells me "Are you nuts? Get out there and train! Who cares if you're sick, I train even when I'm sick. I would have given my eye teeth to have a freediving club available to me when I was a kid your age, don't throw that away".

He just doesn't get it. I'd like to see him try some long statics after going without food, water, and sleep for a week.

Can i give ya a suggestion? When u're sick obviusly ur performance are lower than the usual one the thing i do when am sick is to training even if am not good but i accept the fact that i've to take things more confortable and easy so i do not push myself too much as if am good. So my suggestion is if u're able to training withouth having saefty problems go training but do it lighter if u're not able to training saeftly go home and realx watch a film or stay with ya gf o bf. :D

Dragonfly a really really big part of training is resting and having a healthy diet if your without water.fodd or sleep for any period of time training will just damage you. If you don't get on with your instructor leave and find another.

Lil, what is actually wrong with you?
Not drinking for a week sound about as bad as it gets!

1. Delayed gastric emptying. The stomach fullness/bloating leads to me skimping on the food and water. Sometimes I end up discontinuing food/water entirely, then my body is messed up to the point where it loses its ability to sleep as well.

2. Splitting headaches. When I have one my breathholding abilities go to hell in a handbasket. Plus when I'm in bed thrashing around, hyperventilating, and vomiting, I'm not really in the mood to be doing statics anyway.

Both are caused by my depression.

Accept the fact that my performance will be lousy? Good luck getting me to do that. Lil D does not like failure.

Better for my sanity to just put things on hold in my situation improves.

As for safety, I have no clue as to whether freediving while I am sick is less safe or not. (People, feel free to enlighten me on this.) I just know that my times suck when I'm sick.

You have to be very careful, because:

1. Hard apnea training can easily make you sick
2. Hard apnea training can cause depression

So the question I have is, do you think your sickness was CAUSED by the freediving training?

Certainly overtraining has made me sick many times, and also caused depression.

"Do you think your sickness was CAUSED by the freediving training?"- Haha, I wish!

Unless you count the occasional snorkeling trip or untimed breathhold session in bed, I have not freedived for 10 years. (First it was because of school. I went to a top school that gave way too much homework, and my learning disabilities didn't help any. Then it was because of being bedridden sick with stress-related illness for years.)

I am depressed, simply put, because of the things my mom does to me. (Since this is a public forum, I do not care to elaborate.)

But. Although training is not responsible for the disgusting life situation I am in, I can understand how, if I were to start doing it, it would excascerbate it. In high school I was a swimmer. (I would have rather joined the freediving team, but hey, my school didn't have one) I had a very intense training routine that involved spending every spare moment in the pool swimming laps at breakneck speed. During that period of time I had one of the most horrible bouts of illness in my life (sinus infections from the pool that spread unchecked to the rest of my body), plus the worst bout of depression I've ever had.

Uhm...slowing his metabolism before the static, he'll probably do his personal best rofl
