Hi I am new-ish to the site have been reading around for a while but only just signed up as I am going to the Caribbean over the summer and will be booking some spearfishing trips on the reefs. Have been out before when on holiday in Greece but mainly around the rocks targeting octopus so the reefs will be a different story! Looking to see if there are any members around the Belfast area who may lend me some advice.

Welcome Sean. There are forum members in Ireland although those that spring to mind are in Eire, west coast & Dublin. It may take members a while to find this thread, so by all means take a look round to see what has been posted on Ireland in the past, you mightfind somebody nearby.

As you are going to the Carribean (lucky you!), you might want to try posting a new thread in that region to see what is going on. For example, I believe some areas allow spearing but not spearguns, so handspears, Hawaiian sling & similar gizmos are used.

Hello and thanks for getting back to me! I have taken the initiative and will be attending a free diving course in Dublin this weekend with Free Dive Ireland and hope to do another open water one with them over the summer before I go. I have booked a days blue water hunting in Puerto Rico for my trip as I think the other islands don't allow spearfishing - Cuba, Turks and Caicos, Saint Kitts, Saint Martin
