I am about to perchase a new speargun. I'm after the Rabitech stealth carbon or the H.Dessault Quattro carbon. To be fair, on paper they seem relatively similar, has anyone had any personal experience with either gun? usual stuff, pro's and cons. Any advice good or bad about either gun would be a great help!
Thanks

Forum guys Podge and Glowworm (both Englishmen) shoot H. Dessault's and they love it.
Me I haven't used either, but I bet one of my testicles (only one, though) that the South African railgun (Rabitech) is heavier but more powerful, while the French Arbalete (Dessault) is lighter and handier.
I wish the experts to chime in now, but I seem to remember Rabitech has a thicker barrell and harder bands (it's designed for those fat african fish). The Dessault must have a light 1.5mm thick carbon fiber barrell and pair of thin but truly excellent 16mm bands (pure latex: excellent bands really).
As a rule of thumb, I'd stick to european guns for hunting in Europe, while stick to african and/or american guns for hunting in Oceans. They're designed different, and that's for consistent, practical reasons.

I dont think you would be disappointed with either gun although you dont mention the length? Rabitech have a famous reputation for durability & thier triggers are second to none however - as spag has said the dessault is well liked by them there Dorset boys.

Oh sure you can't go wrong either way: we're talking of 2 excellent guns. Not necessary to be picky (but forgive me, "picky" is my second name: Spaghetti "Picky" Noodles :))

rofl the Guernsey Brothers crack me up! :)

...and there's always the polespear option....:t

Go Omer, I'm with Dave. I have the Desaullt and it is very average quality, the main tube very thick (important if you are hunting in strongish currents).

Buy an aluminum omer cayman and put a reel on it (the match 30 with cayman mount) and you'll love it (bar the metallic "whooosh" as the spear leaves the guide ;)

Cheers

cant speak for the dessault carbone, but i do have a rabi stealth carbon 110, with twin 16mm bands and 6.75mm spear and 2 wraps of mono... that thing is a lazer, and its very durable!
as spago mentioned the rabi would be a bit heavier, but i cant say its significant enough to feeel a major difference when shooting..my 110 is mainly for snapper, which is a fast fish and i dont have any issues there

Scott, don’t you listen to all these heathens!:):)
Get yourself a Dessault, it’s the perfect gun for our waters, light, pointable, strong, plenty of power with the wicked Dessault rubbers, well balanced and as accurate as anybody can be with a speargun.
I’ve got a 75 ally and Glowworm has a 90 carbon and a 75 ally, I’m fairy sure he’d sell his soul before he got rid of the 90 carbon and he can be a fussy bugger.roflrofl

hi podge, i had forgot you boys were using the dessualts when i came to your neck of the woods untill spag and foxfish had mentioned it! with a review like that how can i say no!! ha ha cheers bud.

Yes i am a big fan of the Dessault Quattro in both carbon and ali.

I have put my carbon through some very rough treatment and even remember a dive at tilly whim where the swell was very bad and i used the carbon to support my 16+ stone to get me out.I even scratched the lense of my mask getting out as well.

I used to own several beuchat guns a cressi comanche and used a gabiano last year too.

You can't go wrong with the dessault guns they are reliable and above all SIMPLE.

hey scott, I have recently got 4 guns made buy freedivers. I dived a comp over the weekend and am very chuffed with the results - deadly accurate and also really quiet when being fired and doesn't spook fish like other makes I've used. The rail on the gun is synthetic so dampens the sound of the spear hitting the barrel. A lot of South Africas top divers use them. Check out www.freedivers.co.za
