What do you guys find is the best way to bleed a fish? The few times that i have done it i usually just open up the gills and slice away, but i was reading today that on some fish it's easier to slice some kind of vein that is at the base of the gills next to the body. Any suggestions?

Hi pdice, you know where fishes heart is right? right at the base of the gills next to the body... there is the aorta vein straight from the heart.. just cut that and your fish will bleed quite nicely..

I just gut the fish right after I get them on the stringer, but in a sharkier area this may not be particularly desireable.
