What do you guys find is the best way to bleed a fish? The few times that i have done it i usually just open up the gills and slice away, but i was reading today that on some fish it's easier to slice some kind of vein that is at the base of the gills next to the body. Any suggestions?

It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.

I just gut the fish right after I get them on the stringer, but in a sharkier area this may not be particularly desireable.
