Just got back from another trip tot he other side of the world and was blessed with 20 ft seas for the first few days. Not cool. finally calmed down and was able to get out and get some diving in.
I had just shot a small Yellowfin tuna when to one side I saw the massive tail of a Marlin destroying a school of Rainbow Runners. Frantically I got the YFT in my hands, killed it, stuck it in my belt and reloaded looking to see where Terry Maas (who was filming the Marlin) was. In the swells I could see a good ways away and tried to anticipate where the marlin would come back to if he turned and struck off in that direction. The gamble paid off and he came right for me turning broadside at 20 ft.
A shot to the spine and 20 mintues later I had the most beautiful fish in my hands I have ever seen. 10 ft long and 119 kilos or 260 lbs. Incredible Fish and a good start to a great trip. If approved this will be a new IBSRC World Record for the Species. I am so stoked I can't even believe it. I think this is only one of about 6 of these fish ever taken so I feel blessed to have been able to land one out in the deep blue without chumming, trolling or having someone else guide me there. This fish came from years of scouting and thousands of hours in the water and it is the best feeling of personal satisfaction to have it all come together finally.
Terry did a great job filming and it is all on Hi-def Video so you will be seeing that and some more great footage from the trip in the near future.
