Just got back from another trip tot he other side of the world and was blessed with 20 ft seas for the first few days. Not cool. finally calmed down and was able to get out and get some diving in.
I had just shot a small Yellowfin tuna when to one side I saw the massive tail of a Marlin destroying a school of Rainbow Runners. Frantically I got the YFT in my hands, killed it, stuck it in my belt and reloaded looking to see where Terry Maas (who was filming the Marlin) was. In the swells I could see a good ways away and tried to anticipate where the marlin would come back to if he turned and struck off in that direction. The gamble paid off and he came right for me turning broadside at 20 ft.
A shot to the spine and 20 mintues later I had the most beautiful fish in my hands I have ever seen. 10 ft long and 119 kilos or 260 lbs. Incredible Fish and a good start to a great trip. If approved this will be a new IBSRC World Record for the Species. I am so stoked I can't even believe it. I think this is only one of about 6 of these fish ever taken so I feel blessed to have been able to land one out in the deep blue without chumming, trolling or having someone else guide me there. This fish came from years of scouting and thousands of hours in the water and it is the best feeling of personal satisfaction to have it all come together finally.
Terry did a great job filming and it is all on Hi-def Video so you will be seeing that and some more great footage from the trip in the near future.

this is A BIG CATCH !!

cheers mate for the the fish the hunt & the world record:friday

You make it sound so easy but this is a catch of a lifetime and a handful of people will ever see one in the water, let alone landing it.

Those thousends of hours into the blue paid off finally - excellent catch, i take a bow

in case you have trouble with the language, this french guy caught a 195 kg black marlin, but the photos should speak for themselves.

pity he was a blow in!!!
:)
as for the pending world record of cameron, what about carlos sucupira blue marlin a few months back? didn't he bother registering it with the ISRBC?
who cares anyway about the records? not me, they're turning spearfishing into a heavyweight boxing dilemma.
no dramas here, and most of all, a beautiful fish cameron, congratulations.
care to disclose the location you caught it at? :naughty

Hi Cameron
Congratulations for you amazing fish. You are obviously a dedicated blue water hunter & I am sure you deserved to spear such a wonderful gladiator of the sea. :)

Well done mate,a fish of a life time.I saw a blue last October about the same size which a mate managed to put a spear into.It stayed on for an hour & half running horizontally seemingly unconcerned before the spear pulled out.The slip tip had not deployed & the spear tip was bent where it had hit bone.
It was a beautiful sight lit up & while I was sorry for my mate losing it it is a shame to see such a beautiful animal dead.
I am off now to hug a tree!

Congratulations for the nice fish.

Now don't forget to upload the video, we don't want to miss the action.

Cheers,

Roberto

I am kind of torn between thinking that this is the ultimate spearo challenge and that marlins shouldn't be speared, hmmmmmm.

Either way congrats on a very hard earned victory and a great fish, I am sure it was every bit as challanging as we think it was.

Same here... but I can't work out why?

After all they are commercially fished and killed by catch-and-release gamefishing, and I'm 100% sure a spearo puts a lot more value on a fish like that than any other type of fisho...
