Bournemouth Spearos

Hi all,I been yesterday in the water with Kev (Comanche Killer) the weather was bad but the water was a good 4-5 metres vis and 11 C still cold lots of fishes but no silver one,we tryed a couple of interesting spots.
Always nice to get into the water and to meet new nice people.Thanks Kev.

Hi all, got my first fish on friday, a nice big flattie down by sandbanks groynes, about 2lb something. Very happy with it as vis was poor and the water was freezing. That said it did stand out like a sore thumb as it was resting on a rock. I'll try and get a photo on here asap.

Hey Sam if you don't mind me asking, where abouts by the groynes? as i'm from the area and haven't really tried sandbanks yet. any info would be greatfully received.

Good to see a few more of you at the wessex club dive yesterday, great location and a lot of fish seen now although only a few caught, (I am sure Paul Smith will post something about that , lol )

Hi guys,
I did order a couple of Omer fins millenium runner 3 and received a couple of Omer ice for the same price till now is good but realized that the misure was wrong 6/7 (38/40):head. So I adjusted one blade on my older omer footpocket and I ordered just a spare one.Now I've got 2 spare Omer footpocket size 6/7 (38/40) at good bargain prize is there anyone interested on it before I put it on ebay? Have just bought a spear gun 75 and am looking forward too (or is that hoping) to get a few fish this summer. I'm over in Poole and thinking of trying the groynes off sandbanks. Don't really know anywhere else but would be interested in any suggestions of places to spear or going out spearing with a someone else/a few people. Used to spear about 10 years ago when I was working abroad, but didn't realise until recently that there was quite a few people spearing in the UK! Any advice on areas to try out would be great or drop me a note if you want to go out spearing.

Welcome Jonny. Spearing UK isn't always like spearing abroard but if you can catch fish in the UK you can catch fish anywhere. I'm sure some of the local DB-ers will help you (bit far for me to come). Best of luck.

Hi All.

My wife and I have just arrived in Poole and will be here for the next three to four months. Not keen to go without a dive for that long. It will be great to meet any spearos in the area.

Hi guys,

I'm relatively new to freediving and I was thinking of trying out spearfishing. I 've never dived in the UK and just wanted to know what the spearfishing season is. Or do you guys dive throughout winter. I was surfing a few weeks back and the water wasn't too cold!

Personally I don't as it gets cold after you've been in for a few hours, but some of the guys might do. I started last year (first year in UK waters) at the end of May and the last time I went was September. But I know some of the guys went in April and ended in October. I'm sure if anyone is still going they'll contact you.

In the meantime, Happy Christmas to all the Wessex Spearos out there and see you next year!!!

This is a good thread.

I have snorkelled around the big stone groynes at sandbanks for years and have seen bass and mullet around the metal posts at the ends of the groynes. Also i have seen loads of mullet in the shallows to the right of shell bay at studland and managed to get close to them without taking any particular care of how much noise i was making.

Has anybody had much just pottering around the groynes and studland?
