Bournemouth Spearos

Thanks everybody for all the raccomandations
I will start to use my Cressi 7mm that make me feel like
a squized sausage :),I can agree with all the raccomandations
like under vest bigger gloves and the 7mm socks.....but please
not the pie it will make your stomac work (digestion) so it will
burn out the oxigen trough your blood and you'll have less bottom
time as results. What about a couple of shots???:)

I've spent a large part of my working life getting very cold and wet, and its f****d me up. I never want to get cold again, as long as I live, ever!

I was wearing a 7mm Omer Cayman wetsuit (long johns and jacket) with a thin (1mm or 2mm) open cell under-vest that I bought from Dave at spearo. I also had on a pair of Mares Tri-Gloves (5mm on the outside, 3mm on the palm) and a pair of Picasso 7mm open cell socks, that I bought from Dave Bailey.

I was as warm as toast, and reckon I could have stayed in all day.

One drawback: you need a lot of lead to sink that lot, so wouldn't recommend diving too deep (beyond 10 meters). I'm waiting (and waiting) on a weight harness from Dave @ Spearo uk so that all of that lead isn't concentrated on one place on my spine - because I had quite a back ache when I did get out of the water.

I've tried the shortie over the top of the 5mm open cell suit and that seem to work quite well too.

Wearing all that gear can be quite restrictive out of the water, but once I'm in I find its ok.

I'm not an expert on spearfishing mate, but I'm a quick learner when it comes to keeping warm.

Hi gaz,
wear the harness and you will forget about the back ache
I've got one aswell from Spearo uk the 4kg and no more pain
just remember to fasten it to your weight belt or it will hit
your skull :).

Well chaps, if it makes you feel any better about the cold I am in Denmark, where the water is 3 degrees and the air last night for my first night dive was minus 5 degrees. To make matters worse I came home fishless! Oh and today it's snowing...

Going in with one of the local guys tomorrow looking for cod. Will let you know how I get on...

In the meantime, enjoy the warm UK water! ;)

Haven't fired it at anything yet, but took a few blank shots just to see it go and it felt POWERFUL! Just got to point it at a fish now!

Night dive again tonight...gotta get me a trout!

umm, chance would be a fine thing, my wife has put me on a diet.....and I went on a run last week, just a short 20mins run, and it took me 2hrs to recover from!!!! Must get fitter......

Just ordered 3mm under-vest and 5mm gloves but I coudnt find the socks more than 5mm does anyone know where to get 6-7mm socks?

Dave Bailey and his son, Dan, sell 7mm socks on this website: www.dkbunderwatersports.co.uk (and if they are not on the website then he can certainly get hold of them for you if you ring him).

thanks for your suggestion I contacted Mr Bailey and ordered the 7mm socks,I also had a look on his website and I was impressed about the wetsuite they have on stock and all the staff and for the price not expensive at all.I also was surprised to see the 9mm and 10mm wetsuite!!
Never heard before wetsuite thicker than 7mm,fantastic!

I think I saw a wide range at scubaland.fr(?). I got some very good new neoprene socks off ebay, I think from Mikes Diving in Bristol for a v. reasonable price. They fit great, v. pleased with them. I would not want socks thicker than 5mm though - do you feel the cold (low body fat/used to warmer climes) or have loose fins? I bought some new superstretch gloves last year, 2mm. I think 3mm is commonly used here, 5mm sounds like they might be cumbersome for spearing. With all that extra insulation, you might need to get some more lead too:D.

(Know what you mean Clive, did a couple of runs last week with the nice weather & the calves starting locking up a couple of days later).

I dont like to use thicker staff but rather then stay home and waiting for a warmer climes I prefer to wear cumbersome gear,when I was living in italy I use the 3mm wetsuite from April till the end of November than the 5mm for the remaining months and it was fine.I've to say that I'm a bit skinny so it would be the main reason that I get cold faster than the others but I prefer to be skinny rather than eat a lots of cakesrofl.
Thanx for sending me the links for the french shop but I already both the socks to DKB spearfishing shop I've to say that they have very good staff and prices and to beat the credit crunch is better to buy to the locals ;).

Glad you found what you were looking for. Mind you, by the time they arrive you probably won't need them anymore - still, at least you'll have them in place ready for next year.

Did you order the open cell socks? They are a nightmare if you are trying to walk any distance in them, as they slip all over the place, but excellent once you are actually in the water.

you're probably alright I hope that the water get warmer soon and I dont need them anymore.
About the socks I'm not sure if the're open cells or not but thanx to let me know that the're quite slippery,I'll be careful:)
