Here are some links from a animal physiology class at Simon Fraser University that provide a pretty nice description of the mechanisms that influence respiration. Looking through the slides, I was able to relate a lot of the information to stuff that has been posted here and personal experience. The slides also specifically mention human diving capabilities and the information is relatively current.

At any rate, here are the links:

And here's the first slide in the lecture (for credit's sake)

thanks

Very, very interesting... I´m developing a series of lectures for teaching freediving (Apnea Academy courses in Spanish) and it brings me new ideas related to drawings and diagrams.
Thanks a lot... :D

Mike:
Great links! Takes a while to go through them, but one can extract good info out of it. I'll put that links in with the favorites.

link broken

The link is no longer working. Did anyone download the lecture notes and save them?

Dang!

That's a drag because the information was really good. He seems to have removed the entire "Lectures" directory, which had the information in HTML and PPT format.

I'll send him an e-mail to see if he is willing to re-post the information or allow it to be hosted elsewhere.

Will re-post

I wrote Dr. Boyd and he replied that he was willing to re-post the slides. Basically, he's cleaning up his web space and the slides were a casualty.

He said that the slides were taken from "Eckert's Animal Physiology, 5th edition", in case anyone wants the info in book form.

At any rate, I'll post the new link when the slides are available.
