I have heard of guys (Breathing Up) before going out into the water. What is this, how do you do it and does it work? What is the best pre dive exercise to do before starting the dive. Is doing a CO2 table before going into the water a good or bad idea and will it be beneficial? Thanks guys

You need to talk about what the mission of your dive will be. Working dives,
dives in current, or spearfishing with thick suit and wt to sink it? The guys on here can point you in the right direction if they have more back round.
Cheers, Don

Coming only from a spearfishing side only, I focus on relaxing and breathing deep into my diaphragm then fill my upper chest. I some is driving the boat I do 4 to 6 2min breath holds with recovery breathing on the way to a spot.

Before getting into the water I inhale a bit of sea water I scoop into my mask
by pressing each nostril and inhaling water. I follow this by splashing water on
to my face. I then make a short dive to thirty with out anything but a full shallow inhale. This gets me ready for deeper dives during the hunt.
My working dives are kept close to 2 min for a full day of offshore diving.
I do not forcefully hyperventilate before dives.
Cheers, Don

Amazing links and data Sabastian, thank you so much. I have stayed alive doing what I do for 30+ years. Now that I have a young son I am on a mission to dive safer through better knowledge and skill sets. Much of what I
practiced came from my Polynesian friends and the late Jacque Mayol.
So it's time for a new, more educated program. Thanks again.
All the best, Don Paul
