Caman HF?

Guys, my buddy bought himself an omer Caman HF 110, alu, it looks fantasic, he bought it for 180Euro including real (mach 50), it looks to good to be true!
does anyone have one, comments??
 
I've had a look at the standard cayman and the handle is superb! Great stainless line release and the mechanism is swish. Very nice looking piece of weaponary. Just gotta convince the boss to let me take her for a test dive!

I had a go already, 110 looks nice, good in the water, there was some current, still able to move it sideways without a lot af proble, one thing, the paint on the barrel comes off to easely! but for the rest!

Hi Murat, it is a very good gun for the price, it is 110 and powerful, even with the original rubbers.
The pelagos is a 90, however, it is very well made, maybe a bit more exclusive..you have got one aswell dont you?
The real of the Pelagos is beautiful, the Cayman comes with a Mach 50, you know what I mean.....
The 90 is a bit easier to manouver, but the cayman does an amazing job, it is not hard to move side ways, even with a bit of current.
The cayman has fantastic buoyancy, it is not to heavy, does not sink or float.
I have a Gabbiano, or I had, I have , unfortunately destroyed it, a similar gun to the cayman, and I really liked it, but in the water it was not as good as the Cayman...
My mate bought it for this summer...see if he can catch some dentex...

yeah i was thinking to get babbiano snake or cayman as a back up gun to pelagos 100. Thats why i am asking. Unfortunatelly both of the guns did not arrived yet so i can not see them in flesh and compare.Next gun could be used with twin 16mm bands and 6.5mm spear as well, just did not decide yet.
 

Hi Murat, can you actually mount 2 rubbers on the gabbiano?, do they have a muzzel that allows 2 times 16mm?
 
On the actual Gabbiano Trb you can mount only one set of twin rubbers (no circular), but on the next version to be available from May, the Gabbiano Snake, there will be a muzzle for two circular bands, same as on the Cayman. Also interesting the new Katyusha muzzle for the Gabbiano, that's fitted for 4 screw-in bands.
Personally I think there are NOT so many situations in which we really need two circulars for Mediterranean fish (especially on a 100 cm speargun). I have a Gabbiano 120cm, with aset of 20mm twin bands, which never gave me the impression to be underpowered even on big leerfish and distant targets.
I've had the chance to hold a Cayman HF in my hands in a shop (but not to shoot it) and I was pleased by its very light weight for such a large barrel. The HF must be a very good gun indeed. But I still consider the Gabbiano as the best in the world in this price range (and it's just my 2 cents).

I had a Gabbiano, I really liked it, but, probably due to my own stupidity, I destroyed it, I did not know that they offer these other options (snake,etc..), what about the 120, is it really stiff?
 
Destroyed it? How did it happen? We want the whole story!

The 120 is not an everyday's gun for me, I use it only in certain situations as well as the T20 110. What can I say? It's.....BIG! Not very familiar to handle for me (I've always had a preference for short and slim guns) but it shoots pinpoint straight and has no sensible recoil. Side tracking is pretty nice for such a long and large one.
But then again, the Cayman HF too gave me a very good impression at first sight.
 

Well, I am bit ashamed , I have changed, but...I bought the gun almost 2 years ago, and I have never washed it, or better said had never....
A crack appeared where the tube connects to the "culata", (I dont know the english word, the trigger mech, handle).
Last year I have been spearing and I kid you not, at least 5 times a week, so the whole gun looked "cristalized".
Then last summer, when I was working in Ibiza, as a Dive instructor for a Padi center, I had to hide the gun since they did want to see me spearing.
I understand their point of view (local spanish kids jump in the water with their spetton 60 and kill everything)
I told them that they would not see me running around the center in camouflaged suits with spearguns but they did not get it.
So, what I did...I had my gun hidden at a spot under the water, for a month or so, I would leave my place, near the center, without my gun and tell them I was going freediving and the rest you can imagine..
The gun did not survive this....(I tried to fix it, but many parts did not fit anmore, I still have some parts.....the crack opened, the trigger mech corrosed...)


Of course at the end of the season everyone ( bosses and co instructors)were enjoying my "barracuda in tomato sauce" and "dorada a la sal"...:friday

I have learnt my lesson!! I now always clean my gun!!
 

A quetion Spaghetti, last year the Gabiano 100 lacked a bit of power in the clear waters of Ibiza, I am going again in 1 month :friday, what kind of gun would you advice me..?
I do not want anything from wood, it is to delicate for me, (I had a totem)
And I prefer smaller, more user friendly guns, simple guns...
I have a 90 which I really like (for bass and murcy water ( it is a Picasso carbonium 90 with 19mm Picasso rubbers)).
But a gun with a longer range for clear waters, what is it going to be...at the moment I am thinking about a C4 100 (no double rubbers), or maybe a 115....hell..I do not know, maybe the gabbiano 110 or the Omer....
 
I remember that case you mailed me about: it was about a dentex that your gun didn't pass through, right? My first thought was that the dentex was simply out of range: in clear water things often look closer than they are actually, and dentex is not a fish that comes close easily.
So I think it was too far and the clear water made you underestimate the distance, because there is no fish that a 100cm gun with 20mm rubbers can't pass trough, provided the fish is close enough.
However, a 100 maybe a bit short for "aspetto" in clear water to shy fish like dentex and gilthead. I have a 110 and a 120 for that task. What I don't have is clear water!!! :head

PS: so you left your Gabbiano hidden under sea water for the whole summer? The main reason why I like this gun is that it's strong and solid, but as it seems, too much is too much. I'm sorry for your gun. I too wasted some guns for not washing them after use in the past.
 

I did "stone" a few doradas with this gun, and you are right, it took me a while to get used to the clear water, especially being used to the waters here in Gibraltar.
So..now tell me..what do you think, for aspetto´s in Ibiza?
The gabbiano 110 should do the job (I would change the rubbers), so should the Cayman...or buy a C4, alot more expensive..???
Ps. the gabbiano was in the water for a month...

Ibiza....:friday ...My advice for Ibiza is..........Alka Seltzer as morning breakfast rofl
Seriously, if you like the Cayman HF I think you won't regret: it's very nice and I've had positive feedback from friends about it. Its also sold with a very good reel included in the price.
Other options I can recommend: Gabbiano (either with Trb muzzle, Katyusha or the forthcoming Snake) or T20 Carbon Mimetic with the stick-on rail. And then...mmhhh...Tornado? I know only one person who tried the Seatec Tornado, maybe it's overpowered for our fish (3 circular bands, 32mm barrell, same handle of the Gabbiano). But I'm very, very curious about it, even if it's probably too much for our Med fishing...

BTW ,where are u located, in Italy with bad visability?

In all the videos I have, Italian ones, the viz is great..

I think you will be in the perfect place for a powerful double-band gun. If you are going after dentex you will definitely need the extra range. I'm not an expert in dentex hunting at all (I did it only once) but the long 106cm two-band gun helped me a lot in the 'aspettos'. Since you are in Ibiza, which is well-known dentex and AJ spot (definitely a place I dream of ) you should get a powerful gun and give them hell!
You can also try mamba pneumatic if you like a lot of power in small package.

Dobs, for sure double bands can help aspetto. I sometimes use them on the T20. I still think they're not necessary, but no doubt they give some "plus" in power and range for big distant fish.

For Mike's last question: My sea is the Thyrrenian in central Tuscany. I dive inshore (no boat) and the water is clear only after two days of wind from land, no rain, no surf, which is pretty rare. Also consider that if the wind is from north, the fish tend to hide in very deep holes and crevices (I don't know why). So it's not frequent to have days in which fish swim in clear open water. On those days I always bring on my 110.
When they make a video, they choose the right place, time and weather for a decent visibility.

1.The thing is, that wood is a bit to delicate for me.
I think that the best way to use, and correct me if I am wrong, double rubbers is on a bigger wooden gun right?
I will do a lot of shore dives, unfortunately I am not in the luxury position of owning a boat and wooden guns are not resitant, to me
(I mean that that means a lot of swimming, walking to a spot, cars, through the waves etc..)
(I had a Totem, and had a lot of problems)

BTW, I like the swimming, walking through nature to get to a nice spot, to be honest I am thinking about a Kayak!!

2.Pneumatic guns
I am already scared, just by thinking of it, they require a lot of maintenance, and if something brakes or goes wrong I am F*****d!
I have been thinking about the Mamba, but am a bit afraid of problems.....

So, I have to look for another option!

I have seen videos of guys, like Jean Franco Donati, shooting dentex with C4´s...simple guns, I think they will last a bit longer then the rest!!
But...the quest for a new gun is still on!

However, caught a lot of other nice fish!!
