Can't be a squeeze?

Spearing today in local spot, 10 to 15M, same as every weekend for the past 2 years. First dive, warmup, 1M long to 10M, a little pressure over left eye was the only abnormal sensation, all else was fine.

On surface coughed up bright, almost fluorescent red lumps of blood. About teaspoon per cough up? No chest or throat pain, all feels normal, even now 6 hours later.

I imagine it was a capillary in my sinuses that popped? My left ear was a little tight and EQuing was tough.

Can’t have been a squeeze, right?

My PB is over 42M with no chest probs.

I wouldn't say that it can't be a squeeze but it sounds like a classic sinus rupture to me. Early this year I suffered from both (sinus block and lung squeeze) Sure learned a lot about bleeding. Also be careful about using too much pressure to equalize. Working on a sinus problem too long and with way too much pressure cost me the hearing in my right ear and it was my 'good' ear.

Hey Bill so what you are saying is never dive with sinus problem, Im having that blood color phelgm when diving after an hour when sinus starts kicking in,but after diving it goes away. My spit has no blood also. Only when im clearing my nose during surface interval im getting this bloody phelgm. And my right ear seems like the water doesnt wanna go out for a week now but im not having problem with equing. Im just in shallow water up to 7 to 8 meters. Im a newbie and did the search post but didnt get the answer i was looking for that has similar effects to mine

Never is a long, long time. If we didn't dive with problems, some of us would stay on the surface. I've known quite a few divers who abused their sinuses for years including my favorite dive buddy who said to 'H' with the bloody sinus and made a world record dive to 70 something. She may be 'paying the piper' now, not sure.
I've learned a little about sinus rupture. If you do a real job on one of the big cavities it will bleed for hours and it will remind you for up to a week when you blow your nose. Your problem sounds more like the middle ear might be filling with blood and if it was up to me, I would want to know why. If it's only sinus, a surgeon can probably ream you out you'll heal up better than ever.

What you describe, "rose coloured snot" as I call it was quite common for me when I started freediving. It was caused by bad or insufficient equalization and would be produced by minor capillaries in the sinuses bursting.

What i was taught as a rough guide: more phlegm than blood, (rose coloured snot) small problem. More blood than snot: big problem. That was my case yesterday.

I would see a doctor as Bill recommends, sounds like ears. Try a couple of drops of alcohol and glycerin in the ear, it may be outer if your lucky.

Im new to the site and was brousing the threads. I noticed this one even know it is a little old, I thought I add a bit to it. Ive noticed after ive been diving for over 3-4 hours usually over 30M I get this clear but hi-lighter yellow looking phlem. Ive seen my dive partner get the same thing too.

not noticed that myself, darker yellow snot would be some kind of infection manifesting itself.

To close my original issue: it was not a squeeze, it was some weird hemorrhage in my sinuses. Since then though I have not had any reverse sinus squeezes that troubled me in the past, it seems like that whatever burst did it for the greater good.

Hi it is a good thread i was thinking to ask about the same since 3 weeks and i am feeling pain in my chest and back but there is no blood coming or anything just pain i was telling myself tomorrow the pain will go now pass 3 weeks and i am not sure what is it? Actually i am not athletic now i have more weight and i do not make any sport but spearfishing once every week... What is the reason for lung squeeze and how to know if it is real lung squeeze?
