What are the rates? Because my mate that is starting with me found someone that is will to help us too, Eckhart I think his name is.

Where do you go spearing? We would go to seapoint, camps bay area.
Also do you require any kind of permit for spearing and crayfish?

Any one in Cape Town keen on doing some free diving? I have no idea where the dive spots are. Just got back from the philippines where the water is warm and there's a drop off about 50m from the beach. I'm guessing it wont be that easy here...

Freediving Spots = Blue Rock Quarry in Somerset West just off the N2 before Sir Lowry's Pass. +-45m of murky water with some frosty thermoclines

If you are looking for ocean freediving spots with shore launches, then the most you'll find is a toothy 20m

Spearfishing spots = all over!... where permitted

Crayfishing = Kommetjies, Soetwater, Cape Point, almost anywhere on Clarens drive, Pringle, Betty's etc.

Eckhart is a good guy to speak to about spearing and Linda (Freediving - Courses | Training | Competitions | Equipment | Events | Cape Town) for all things freediving.

I actually just drove past blue rock yesterday and wondered about it. I'm getting claustrophobic just thinking about free diving in a dark murky lake. Where abouts would good shore dives be?

Well once you get used to 45m of cold dark water, then diving 60-70m in warm clear water becomes a bit easier.

For a deep shore dive... around A-Frame in Simon's Town provides good depth close to shore. There is also a spot around there with 30m, but put on you chainmail wetsuit and charge your shark shield!

haha it will still be a while till i'm anywhere near 45m. 30m seems max for my equalisation ability.

Another thing I'm missing about the philippines, no sharks...
