Did anyone here know about the West Coast sized kreef at Millers? I just saw an old timer come out with a bag full of huge kreef at Millers. He kind of told me where they were, but does anyone know for sure?

The fact that you have seen them, is a step forward. Since I have only heard of them. I thought that it falls in the same category as the monster kreef off kalkbay harbour, the man eating red steenbrass off Rooi else and perhaps even the lochness monster.

But I'm all for testing this legend :)

BTW. I still want to investigate Chapmans peak and Kalk Bay harbour.

ahoy lenny,
do you know up until where you can dive and harvest at chapmans? I was there last week saturday and the water looked awesome.I'm sure the crays must be loose there.i know the lobster sanctuary starts around there somewhere, but couldnt figure out the exact spot according to the map. Also did some diving around hermanus and onrus, found some size crays, but an old dude that got out as I was going in, had a bag full of beasts. It seems knowing the holes helps alot and once you know the secret caves you guard the location with your life.

That's an excellent question. I know that it does start somewhere there, but I also no that there is a rocky section that falls out of the reserve. I have also heard some stories about monsters there. Aparently it's quite hectic diving, deep holes and caves. But I keen to give it a shot.

"It seems knowing the holes helps alot and once you know the secret caves you guard the location with your life."

Yeah that sounds about right. The problem is that the crays migrate. So I had a whole list of awsum spots/holes last season, and this season I went there and they empty. I dunno if it poaching or migration, either way it sux.

BTW. I'm in Sandbaai this weekend if anyone wants to join me?

Hi Lenny
I'm back in PE for now, but should be back in the Cape towards the end of the month, depending on what the weather and fish do up this way. Anyway, would like to dive at chapmans it looks like quite a spectacular place, apart from the hike up and down the treacherous cliffs with diving gear.just have to clear up the story with the marine parks borders. You guys ever dive at Cape point? looks quite nice there to. My dad use to dive there lots when I was a laaitie, specially on the wild side and got some monster crays and pearly. Sandbaai's got a good cray spot towards the right of the little bay with the beach, I think it's about the first or second parking spot to the right of the main one. Just wait for low swell though. goodluck

Hi, does anyone here still dive, I'm back in the Cape, got new fins and hungry to dive

Yeah mate Im dying for a dive myself, just the freaking weather not playing along for the last month or so. This weekend hopefully looks better.

And I'm just fuming at the proposed 500% increase in fishing and cray permits. Gawd these govie jerks can piss people off.

A Nice heatwave gonna hit us this weekend, i'm going to try and head out to pringle to see if i still fit into my wetsuit :) seems ive had a bit of a development around my waistline in recent weeks :)

Anybody game?

sorry chaps didnt get my mail notifications that anybody posted ffs would have been fun with some mates.

hey all,
if you are in cape town and want to compete in a pool competition, read below:)

iHound Pool Challenge - AIDA FREEDIVING COMPETITION
22nd AUGUST
CAPE TOWN, Strand Pool

FREEDIVE CAPE TOWN in conjunction with iHound is organizing an indoor freediving competition for static and dynamic apnea disciplines.

The static apnea discipline will be in the morning and dynamic apnea disciplines (with or without fins) will be in the afternoon.

The competition will have AIDA ranking status, which means that it is an official AIDA competition and that it is possible to break national records.

Training/coaching sessions and pool courses prior the competition are available from the beginning of August in Cape Town.

On Saturday the 21st we will run a warm-up competition to get comfortable with the most important competition rules and procedures.

Participants who want to be included in the AIDA rankings will need to present their ID and medical certificate stating “fit for freediving” at the registration. They must also be members of a national AIDA (you can do this directly at the registration).
If AIDA ranking is not important to you then none of this is necessary.

Competition fee: R200
Fee for the warm up competition on the 21st: R120
Coaching sessions: R200 per hour

Hey guys and gals

I just started free diving lessons in the cape to overcome my fear with the ocean and to basically enjoy being down there in the water.

My lessons have been going great so far and my instructor is pleased with my "aquaticity" :) Im now thinking i might as well start spearfishing but thats only in the later stages once i have been in the sea(only had pool dives so far). Glad to have found this forum!

Anyways im busy starting to train my lungs and condition myself for breath holds.Going to be doing some breatholding 02 and c02 this weekend and then throw myself into a pool just to get fit and such:blackeye

Well since we are starting together, we both need some advice, we are in the Seapoint area. Also some help with permits, do we need to get? How much do they cost? Also is it allowed to take crayfish or do we need a certain license for that.

Sunday fish braai's are going to become a regular thing at my place. :)

Hi

I found a good instructor for spearfishing, crayfish diving etc.He trained me up to a point where I could safely and comfortably dive down to 15m and catch legal size crayfish.

His name is Leigh and his cell phone number is: 082 347 3370.

It is definitely worth giving him a call

:) See you in the water :)
