Hey Paul howzit boet! Yup its me I'm telling you we should have been in the water at Oudekraal yesterday, was clean as glass when I got round to Clifton after the pool last night

Ahh yes - this whole week seems to have been pretty darn good! Might dive off kayak with a mate this weekend. Don't think it will be as good, but you never know until you go! Have a good one...

Hey John, did you go to Soetwater yesterday, we did not see you. If so how was your dive? I'm taking my off day tomorrow (tuesday) wanna go for a dive. This time I can get there nice and early + already got some spare limpets. Was thinking of Hardebaai or Scarbourough (if the swell is small)?

Yesterday we got there a little late 1pm (had a few stops i had to make on the way), perhaps thats why i missed you. The tide was pushing so we wasted no time collecting limpets probally done in 5mins. We then went out almost the same place i went with you on monday just behind the first set of kelp and more to the slangkop side. Found a much easier entry point (where you dont have to cross that shallow strip of rocks. Viz was ok (for crayfishing) about 1.5m. The crays where going crazy, had five of em in the bag in no time. I think i found a sweetspot. The swell started picking up and the viz deteriorating so we decided to call it a dive.
Even though after a fizz pop and a can of coke Reece was ready for round two!

When we where standing at the car park in front of the pool, we watched a guy catch a Galjoen off the tide pool wall:rcard (no inspectors in sight of course), but they where also pulling in pretty decent kalbeljou! I was a bit lazy to suit up again so we just went home, but in hindsight i think we should have got into the water to see what we could shoot.:head I means its like 1m deep water they are catching em in! anyways,...

Hardebaai looked really clean, (it often does) actually want try it out some time. Do some exploring.

Cheers. Thats my dive report

Nice one! so you dive around the tidal pool area then? I've still never dived kommetjie area...
We went to hangklip on saturday morning....got there around 7am and it was already packed with people climbing into anything the floats with their kreef nets and snoek koppe..
saw a nice size musselcracker...but cos the kelp was so thick i decided to leave my gun and dive around it (and as things go about 5 mins after this great idea i saw the cracker...waiting for me....easiest shot ever!)
Anyway..i had one kreef (dont seem to be many big ones at hangklip) and was swimming back in and swam over a kreef net with some snoek heads....kreef were all over...so filled my bag and got out...wasnt a bad dive...viz was top to bottom although slightly murky......around about 6 metre viz..

rofllolrofl

I'm sure if we tried my technique with the bait bottles you could get the same effect without having to steal. Although I would have done the same :t (or have done the same,...Its too hard to resist!)rofl

hehehe ive never used bait bags or anything to bait the kreef....but damn it works well!!!!! as soon as i took afew they scattered....so i waited....within 20 seconds feelers were coming out from under rocks..behind sponges...everywhere...they go mal for bait !! will definately use that method again....maybe try it out at melkbos

Count me in, on that experiment!

But i prefer to use a wire-ring, cos the kreef just rip bait bags open. I also use limpets cos pilchards or fish heads attract sharks Not something i wanna do in false bay! The only real advantage with pilchards is that it also chums the water which attracts fish like hotties etc. them and sharks. its a trade off.

also when you grab em off the bait they all scatter and the little ones will come back but the bigger ones won't, but if you keep your eyes pealed you can see which holes they disappear into and reach into the holes to get them, also sometimes you can lure them out by wriggling your fingers in front of the hole (they are really stupid creatures!)

It is definitely the way forward.

Hey Lenny, sorry I missed you. I was in the water at s.water, but had my housemate and her buddy along with me. They nagged me into taking them kreefing even though they can hardly snorkel let alone dive. Anyway, I spent most of the time making sure they didn't drown, but still managed to get 2 decent sized kreef. It was a bit weird diving there with the tide out... at least the limpets were easy to reach

Yeah, I can do a morning dive tomorrow, but will need to be back in the 'office' by around 1 - 2PM.

Lenny!! Congratulations dude! I bet you'll have Hannah and Cloe pulling out cray and spearing fish in no time at all.

I pulled this guy out of S.Water today in their honor

Crikey, i can't figure how to post pics

anyways, I'm finally staying at the sea again (Fish Hoek) and now for the first time I feel like I'm on holiday!:friday So if anyone is diving in down in penisula let me know. I'm up for a dive everyday, I just need buddies.

I have a suspicion that there is going to be lots of tail around smits very soon, cos we have had a pretty consitent SE for a week or two, and suddenly it switched to a NE this morning. The only bummer is that i don't have my little rubber duckie with me

Hey is anyone still alive???????

Been doing plenty of kreef dives, but no spearfishing. Anybody else doing any diving?

By the way Pringle Bay rocks! Went for my first dive there this morning. Even though the viz was bad the water was warm and i realy enjoyed the dive. The sealife (Corals, sponges, etc) is excellent. We took out 24 kreef in 45 minutes between me and my buddy! (nice sizes as well). This is a great spot, I cant wait to go there on a clear day to see what fish there are there.

Maybe everyone's in Durban for the holidays?

Then again, they'd be in the wrong spot cos by the sounds of things you guys have been havinng a better time of things with the weather? But that may just be my dive buddy feeding me misinformation so I don't feel bad about not being anywhere near a body of water at the moment!!

hehehe
Oops, you caught me... Thanks for being a great buddy both in and out of the water. Misinformation never sounded so good!

I think a trip to the Cape by a bunch of Durbanites is in order sometime this year. By the sounds of things the diving there is pretty darn good. If a little cold...

Would be great to hook up with you guys.:friday i'm not sure if the diving is better here, we are all under the impression that it is better in durbs. But I suppose the grass is always greener on the otherside, or rather the sea is always bluer further along the coast .

Make sure that you have a 5mm suit, anything under just won't cut it in our chilly waters.
If you do come down, I suggest you or we plan a trip to StillBaai, Jongensfontein, Stuisbaai or somewhere out there cos that is really where our prime spearfishing spots are.

Well, I got my wish Pringle bay with crystal clear water! Plenty of nice size hotties, huge Perly (such a pity), one or two butterfish, millions of octopuses, big schools of strepies, nice gullys and big caves and of course plenty of bugs.

I took out seven crays, and then shot two nice sized hotties, but it wasnt long until I ran into a 2m gentlemen in a grey suit. So I decided to pack it up and head back to the shore. My buddy managed to miss him, but he got his chance eventually . As i was getting out on the rocks my buddy was 20m behind me near to where my float was, and he then also spotted our little friend. The shark had followed me all the way from the back row of kelp to the shore! - Moral of the story: I need to find someway to keep my fish out the water! (maybe a boogie board or something)

It may be worth your while investing in a fishing ski, it offers both storage and shelter when the taxman cometh... and you can kepp the curry sarmies dry

Awesome! Ya, I think in this case the kelp is greener on your side but the sea is definitely bluer more often up our way

Got a 2 piece 5ml suit I use for scuba.. not ideal but I guess it'll do the trick. We'll have to make some real plans, I'll PM you my email address etc and we can talk when I get home!

You could show us where to find the big bugs then you could come visit us sometime and we could return the favour...
