forgot that im not supposed to be in the water till saturday! got one of my tattoos touched up on monday and the oke said that i gotta wait 5 days before i let it get wet for long periods....was thinking if it still looks good tomorrow i could get a jiffy bag and some duck tape and waterproof my arm...heehee

Went out at Millers yesterday with Covert, viz was good in most places varied between 5 to 10m. There was lots of life in the water especially those little juvenile gallies that swim rite up to your spearpoint because they know your not allowed to shoot them :t. Saw a catshark and quite a few schools of small hotties and gallies swim through the kelp. On my way out I missed the biggest gallie Ive ever seen in my life, this was a phat one quite possibly in the 3kg range so heres that story. I was swimming out and was slowly working my way through the kelp when out of the corner of my eye I saw a large shape moving through the kelp I turned and took aim carefull not to scare the fish away, the fish turned and gave me a perfect broad side view I could almost see my spear punching it behind the gill plate and slowly squeezed the trigger... nothing the safety latch was on :vangry rofl Needless to say by the time I was ready to retake my aim all I could see was tail fin disapearing into the kelp and rocks.
So tonight Im gonna superglue my safety in the fire position to elimenate that problem, on the upside my falsebaai bodyboard float works well in the kelp alltough I lost the diving flag which tore out when the board got turned over and dragged over the rocks by a wave while getting out of the water.
Will post a pic and details on the board as soon as I finish the tweaking after yesterdays first test...

Hehe...same thing happened to me yesterday with a gallie! damn safety!!!! found that the safty notch on the rabitech is easy to engage without knowing!

on saturday we went to millers point...viz was slightly better than on sunday (about 10 + metres)..only saw afew hotties and some small gallies, who decided to tease me as deepthinker mentioned they love to do!

sunday i was meant to go with deepthinker for a dive and got to false bay only to find i had no cellphone signal and my battery was about to go flat!!!!!! anyway i ended up jumping in at smits and had a great 3 hour dive! viz was good and i felt brave enought to leave the kelp and go a little deeper...only saw a couple of small roman, a school of hotties that never stopped following me, about 20 gallies, although there was only a school of 5 which were fat and over the 35cm mark..., also saw some wildeperd which i was stalking only to be interrupted by a small (about 1-1.5m shark) ...another time i turned round to see these huge eyes staring right back at me, i got a fright and kinda jumped underwater and so did the seal...hehe. anyway he swam with me for afew minutes and left...
then came the walk back up the hill!!!!!!

heres some photos of smits a millers on saturday and sunday..

Hello all! News and a request...

For those of you who don't know me, I'm a Muizenberg local, but live in Stockholm, Sweden over the European summer.
I love reading the forums about Cape Town, and I have a suggestion/ question... for a long time this strand was the only CT strand, and it was easy to stay up to date on what you guys are up to, the viz the wind and all that yummy CT news. Now, though, people seem to start opening new threads all the time, which is cool, but harder to follow. There are so many people on this specific thread, can we not try stick to it? Would make it easier for a sporadic visitor like me to stay in the loop?
Good idea? Bad idea?
Oh, and also, last week I set a new SA record in Dynamic with Fins to 129m, unfortunately my dynamics are not translating into depth, ears ears...

Look forward to seeing you all when I get back in October!
Hanli

Hey man, congrats on the record!
i will remember for next time i post a report or anything to do it here rather! (althought this isnt in the spearing section - any chance it could be moved?)
keep well
and see you soon i guess!
was going to go for a surf in muizenberg on sunday but there were no waves! :vangry

Thanks for the congrats!
No need to move the thread, we all know where to find it, and us "pure" freedivers can tolerate the murder talk, I'm sure... :)
(She says, longing for a freshly-shot-fish-braai!)

BTW hunlee I take offense to the murder accusation we merely relieve the fish of the daily stress of worrying about death by great white shark... so we are doing them a favor actually.

Hey Hanli - big time congratulations on your record!!! When you get back, you gotta tell us all about it!

Hey everyone - you just can't beat it can you - a nice yellowtail flecked on the coals with a cool batter/sauce - all washed down with a sixpack of amstels (after a big dive). I reckon that's heaven!

Ok all and Hunlee ;)
What do you think are we going to give Soetwater a go on Sunday.
My wife and maybe a freind of hers will be coming along and if were lucky and the weather turns out good watch the fire while were in the water. Im thinking we should perhaps meet up there at a respectable time perhaps 11ish. What do you think  and whos in or out!
