Carbon Belly teak guns

Just finished a couple of guns 120cm rear and 100 euro. Both are double tapered front (1" W) to back(3.5"W) and side to side. I tried to minimize the profile to make them as hydrodynamic as possible, the added carbon fiber (bidirectional weave) on the bottom allowed for the tight dimensions (1.25" H) zero arch. Both guns in teak with the old world tar finish (used by cuban divers in the 50-60's) steves (trig mech auto reset on the line release) both enclosed track shooting 9/32 riffe shafts and and can be rigged either crimped on the fin or with line retaining ring. The 120 has the 3 5/8 inline bands(StainlessSteel "VaderHead"). Handle made of Zebrano...will try to post pix of the Euro.

That is some cannon you got there! Nice work. How do you like the double wish-bone set up? any difference in power or action?

I just finished my fiance's gun:inlove, only a 90 I built it some what similar to the riffe euro but it has a little more height to the profile. Could probably do with some shaping but it tracks pretty well under water.

Instead of the full rubber tied with one wishbone you have the wish bone on the shaft side and a wishbone (or what ever you want to call it) in the muzzle as apposed to carrying the rubber through the muzzle.

Ok gotcha ( I refer to it as inline bands) powerwise conventional bands move the shaft faster (inch for inch), on an accuracy level the inline bands seem to perform better. It all boils down to personal preference, I was making alot more guns inline and now its shifted to the conventional rubber...definitely more work making and tying inline guns/bands.

Have you tried the inline bands on an open track? I would imagine for the open track you require a little bit of downward force on the spear, whereas with the closed track this isn't needed.

A lot of builders will actually design rail guns with in-line bands. Not necessarily this type but they will cut the stock so that the bands actually come out the top of the gun to make them perfectly in-line with the shaft. Supposedly it makes for a more powerful and accurate shot. I think the dynamics in the water and the weight of the shaft is enough to carry it down the track though im no expert.

Inline is a kinda double edged knife,the higher (more inline) the bands are the more they vibrate, and "slow the swing" while tracking fish, the gun in the pic has the bands just a few mm lower than the barrel and ultimately rests alongside, of course the >ht in bands is compounded with more bands...this configuration is a happy medium allowing the pro's of inline with the hydrodynamics of a conventional band gun.

hiya simon to bad 'bout the weather as one of these guns was waiting for you:martial.

The Tar finish is absorbed in the wood later it is coated with marine varnish (8-10 coats) and finally waxed with steelwool.
