Mud Puddle Diver

I remember talking to someone about spearfishing in lakes and was told that you can spearfish carp if your state does not allow spearing of freshwater game fish. I wanted
to now how you hunt down carp in lakes or find out what depths and locations they hang out. Thank You for any help

check out the thread "cyprinus carpio" for a picture of a good sized carp I took in big cormorant lake of minnesota. I guess to find them I just spent a lot of time in the water.. and it was more that they found me. They were schooled up and at that time fairly shallow -- and they were in the same spot for several days. Most DNR (department of Natural Resources) could give you a list of lakes with good numbers of carp in them... that might be a good place to start.. or your local game and fish department. They were a bit skiddish at first but if I remained still they would circle me for a look and continuely circle closer and closer..their mistake.

If it's got a bottom and there is fresh water in it, it's got carp in it. Look at the shallows in the early a.m and at dusk for the plumes of mud raised by them as they feed on the bottom. Count on them being there the next day.

It wasn't that big Fred... :t

Hey Sven,
jealous, jealous.. I hid my mask too.. you'll never find it. ('course, I might forget where I put it)

Seriously though.. this spearfishing is a blast!!! Never would have gotten into it without seeing the pics and reading the posts here on the DB.
