Hi every one...

This is a bit of an old story about 2 years old now.... but still worth posting for those of you looking for a new cave to explore.

Its one of the BEST dives i have had ever.

Its located in the sultanate of Oman, the cave is called "Tiwi Sink Hole". Its clamed that the hole was created when a meteorite struck the surface of a network of underground caves. hens creating the huge hole you see in the photo and the entrance to the cave.

Located in the eastern side of Oman south of Qurayat, its about a 2 hr drive from Muscat the Capital, with about a 45 min to 1 hr of off road driving.

The gear we used was very basic, 15ltr tank, Line, torches, strobe lights and light sticks. The line was not even close to enough as we ventured close to 100m into the cave, luckily, the explorers that wrote the article had left their lines in tact... and that’s what we used.

The cave is a mixture of sea and fresh water from the mountains. the vis is up to 30-40m, provided you don’t touch the bottom.

There is a section of 0 vis sulpher eating bacteria at about 2-3m, the layer is about 5 m thick. its almost like swimming through a cup of black coffee, but once you manage to gather your courage and get through that layer the vis just opens up. and you start to feel that you are suspended in space!

max recorded depth is 65m, but is believed to go much beyond that. we descended to a max depth of 35m. the cave is huge in some places, with rooms reaching a width of 100m in width and 50 m in length. very easy to get disorientated in there especially when you cant see the bottom, the roof or any of the sides of the cave. You got nothing but a rope going across.

Some other sections of the cave were like mouse holes, where you had to squeez your way through over and under huge boulders.

its definitely an experience of a life time.!
