Channel island diving

Hey guys first time posting in spearboard so please bare with me =]

My buddy's and I are planning to go to channel island around July and was wondering which island would be best to Check out. We are not sure whether we are going to rent a boat or not. Therefore, I was wondering if any of you guys can point me in the right direction for the best shoredives.

I can hunt comfortably with my 115 Picasso magnum around 60-70' (Spearamerica gave me an awesome deal). My other buddy's are quite new to this fantastic sport. I'd say they are comfortable around 25' ft with good viz.

I went to Santa Cruz island last year and did a few shore dives with my float tube where the ferry dropped us off and was luckily enough to get a few calicos only. I had to get away from the marine protected zone which was not too far for me. Will the other island produce more bigger fishes? I heard Channel island is home to the giants but I figured you would need a boat even though I saw numerous big fishes near the kelps that would absolutely not swim away from their safe zones. Lol

If I were to rent a boat, any suggestions on where too hit up?? We plan on doing mostly freediving. I have all my scuba equipments so I might bring it out and do a solo dive.

Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated!
