Chest Burn during DYN?!

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 90 days.

I just wanted to add something to your chest burn, Billieball:

Hilarious, Trux! What makes this so much funnier is that my husband hated Schlitz beer when it was around...and now has a t-shirt with the logo!

Waiting on him right now, so we can go test out some of these chest burn theories. I'll be back with the results later this afternoon!

Nice picture Trux!! Very funny!

I was stuck around the 75mtr mark for ages and then one night told everyone in the pool i was gonna turn at the 75mtr point so i had no chance of backing out. I told my saftey diver i was gonna turn and then probably come up. I didn't, i found that soon as i turned i might as well finish the length and found it easy to 100mtr.

It was truely a metal thing, i hate contractions in DYM but tolerate them in statics (just about anyway)

I do get some tingelling sensations in hands and feet but never in the chest, if it was blood shift surely the blood would be shifting into the chest and not away from it?

Hope your session in the pool goes well Billie....

Woohoo!
Made the turn. 100m, here I come!

It was funny, because I wasn't really "feeling it" today...too much cardio the past couple of days, so my legs were already rubbery.
But after touching the wall, the turn wasn't that bad! My chest didn't burn at all! And no, I didn't add any external lube to my chest, boys.

I miraculously discovered that arm/hand position greatly influences hydrodynamics in the pool (duh:head). I wore the same amount of weight around my neck, but shifted my arms slightly. This gave me a bit more lift from the bottom of the pool, without any extra effort! Next, I guess I'll have to get one of those fancy-schmancy speed suits, eh? And to think I didn't really like DYN a year ago when I started this journey into freediving?! I LOVE it now. It's exciting to see what my body can do in different situations...depth isn't the only enjoyable challenge anymore.

Thanks for all the advice. Glad my chest burn wasn't indicative of some catastrophic cardiac deal! Now, I'll have to keep you posted of my progress, whether or not you are interested!

Oh, and if I run into issues again with being too close to the bottom again, there's always this:

Cheers!

Well done Billie, it's all in the mind. When you hit a barrier if it be mental or physical you got to keep at it until your ready to jump over it.

It feels so sweet to get to that 100mtr mark as it does when you hit the 5min mark for statics there all magic numbers.

Keep your elbows locked out and your head down but stay as relaxed as you can works for me, how many kicks to each length were you making?

I have been working on my gliding technique over the past few weeks and got my kicks down to 6 per 25mtrs, just took me a while to sort my weight out butu i cracked it last night.

Keep us all posted (we are interested really) and shame about the lube i bet the life guards were gutted!!!

Thanks Chris , but I'm used to it . As long as she stays out of my way i'm good.
Just kidding , I was glad to see her make her turn . I've been waiting and expecting the turn at 75 for a while but today I was suprised as she said she was tired and not feeling it.

Good job Billie.

Todd

ps is dinner ready yet?

That's it Todd let her know who's boss! Well at least sound like your the boss (we all know who wears the trousers really)

Sorry got to go my wife is calling me.....

Thanks guys! Now I just want to hit 100m. Hoping the weather stays alright (we're getting some crap from Hurricane Ike)...practice, practice, practice.

BTW, bite_ya, are you wearing bi-fins or a mono? Six kick cycles per 25m? That's phenomenal. I think I'm at 15-18 kick cycles, and I'm using bi-fins. Hmmm...

Billie, I use a monofin from Leaderfins. made from carbon fibre! Think it's easier than using bi-fins. Try one a give it a go (use much less energy and save on O2)

Sorry did you do the 100mtrs or did i misunderstand you?

Chris

Tony, I'm not sure who created that monster but it really helps out when I want to go freediving.
We're going to be back next month (our son is going to take the level II class), so I'm sure we will see you then. By the way nice job at the comp wish we could have been there.

Todd

Billie didn't make the 100 yet her main goal was to just hit the wall and turn for now. Just one of those mental barriers.

Hey Billie,

One possible explanation is that having your arms tight overhead or reaching for the wall could cause some muscle pinching of a nerve in your back that refers down to your chest. I have no idea if this is plausible from an anatomy point of view, but if you were straining to assume a streamline that you're not used to (and if you were looking where you were going rather than keeping your head aligned with your spine), that could happen, I suppose.

I doubt it's blood shift at this point.... but you never know.

I don't get it, how should I use the Criso? Is everyone using it now?

Pete

Pete, don't use the Crisco! It's only for the Lower Alabama folk (Florida Panhandle). If not used properly it can be dangerous (oil and water don't mix!!!). Billie has a shady past rofl

I'm scared of all southerners. Just so you know. All that southern hospitality and beneath it....a crisco-loving facade beneath another crisco-loving facade!

Don't worry, I get to insult southerners because my great-grandmother was from Chattanooga. Or however the heck you spell it.

One time I was hitch-hiking through Georgia and I got a ride from a guy who was AWOL from the army. He had a live grenade hanging from his rearview mirror.

That reminds me of another story I'll post over on the mushroom thread :) It relates to this thread though - because I was visiting a friend of mine at Life Chiropractic College...did you know theres like this long hangy moss on the trees down there? Come to think of it - I was pretty close to where Ted is building the Lunocet. Nice Country.. lots of mushrooms.

Incidentally (speaking of Chiropractic) - I agree with Pete's upper back tension hypothesis - you may have mitigated it by changing arm position.

Funny how simple tweaks to positioning can change EVERYTHING.

As for the hanging moss stuff, it's called Spanish Moss, and only grows on certain trees. When we were kids, we used to play with it...until the grown-ups pointed out that it is filled with little mites. Itchy, itchy!

Might try for 100m this weekend. Can't imagine 248m!
