I'm fairly new to freediving--only been certified for a few months. I've been trying to incorporate some CO2 training during regular daily activities. For example:

  • Every time I get up from my desk (e.g. to go to the bathroom or kitchen), I do a full exhale and try holding my breath while walking (e.g. usually takes about 45 seconds).
  • While watching TV, do some easy breatholds of about 1:30 - 2:30 (until contractions start kicking in hard
I also do some more formalized training using "Freedive Apnea" app.

My Question: is this a sensible strategy? Will it lead to improvement? Or, could this have some detrimental effects I'm not thinking of?

Thank you

If you are new to long breath holds, then yes it will help you get used to doing long breath holds - you will learn to relax while doing them, which is important. It will become "second nature". But they won't really get "easier" - it's just that they become familiar.
