I just got a pair of Cressi smooth outside socks in 3mm and a pair of 3mm Seac Sub socks also. With them i got a pair of smooth gloves 5 finger from Seac Sub which are just amazing! Anyone like a report i could write one and snap some photos.

cold cold water suits

Henderson Insta-drys are interesting - smooth in, textured out with a nylon sandwich. I was given a pair by a local scuba shop - I think they will be very good down to around 45-50F - I got them late in the season and I think the water temps were 40 and below - they were good at those temps for about 20 minutes. They are 5 mil but warmer than my 6.5 mil gold cores.

Here is some photos first the Seac Sub smooth socks and gloves and the Cressi Smooth socks.
What was funny is that the difference between the cressi and the seac is just that Cressi have kevlar bottom of socks and feels a bit more rought than the Seac ones. Thes seem to be made in same factory in taiwan even!

I have two pair of those 3mm Cressi socks. I love them in my monofin but they are not the strongest socks I've ever owned- which is why I bought a second pair.
I also have another piar of 3mm Spetton socks for my bi-fins that are warmer, and stronger, but don't slide into a tight monofin pocket as well as those smoothskin cressi socks.
Chris, We are getting more wet snow tonight, rain all day tomorrow, wet snow again tomorrow night. What a mess.:head If the temp had only dropped another 20 degrees we would have 3-4' of fresh powder aroud here- whch would be a lot more fun.

Funny thing is that the Cressi 3mm smooth socks is same ad the seac sub socks only difference is that the cressi is said to have kevlar on the underside and it is a bit less comfortable than the Seac socks therefore.
I just returned from half an hour of 5˚C water in my new elios suit.
And it rocks hard!
The suit kept nice and comfy all the time and I'm sure would have kept me warm for another hour. hardly any water entered. Pretty much only my hands and feet got wet and that would have been avoidable with better socks and less playing around with the gloves.
I got a suit with hood and torso 6mm, arms and pants 5mm, all Heiwa medium density.
Outer lining is stretchy nylon, inside is open cell with the new black coating.
Plus the 5mm three-finger-gloves in kanoko superstretch outside and thermal pile inside for durability.
It's wonderful! :inlove I could even put the suit on without any kind of lubrication, but choose to use a little baby powder for arms and ankles because it's even easier to put on that way and so the coating there will last a little longer until I learned how to put it on best - elios' howtos on their site are actually very helpful. Who would have thought one could use a Putting-on-and-taking-off-wetsuits-HOWTO? :t
In the end I have to say, I'm very happy and can only recommend this combination.

When you get to Anchorage, go by Last Frontier Diving and they can get you in touch with the local freediving community. The local freediving season starts in April and continues into the fall. By then most are pretty tired of the cold.

Does anyone here have an opinion on the recreational freediving 7 mil open cell wetsuit (not the competitive suit) by Oceaner that is sold through Performancefreediving.com? I have searched for "Oceaner" here and on another board and haven't seen a post about this particular wetsuit.
