Considering a Suunto D5 - Is It the Right Choice?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to upgrade from my entry-level computer and the Suunto D5 has really caught my eye. I love the idea of the full-color screen and the wireless connectivity.

I've been diving for two years (mostly warm water, reef diving, occasionally hitting 30m/100ft) and I'm planning to do more deep and nitrox diving soon.

Before I pull the trigger, I'd love some real-world feedback: For those who own one, how has the D5 held up? Any pros or cons you've discovered? How does Suunto's algorithm feel on deeper dives (say, 35-40m)? Does it feel overly conservative compared to others? How is the battery life on a liveaboard trip with 4+ dives a day?

I’ve been diving with the D5 for a while — great screen and super intuitive underwater. It does run a bit conservative on deeper/repetitive dives, but it’s predictable once you get used to it. Battery life’s fine for a couple of days on a liveaboard if you top it up.

If you’re still deciding, check out the new Suunto Ocean too (the info if you need: https://us.suunto.com/products/suunto-ocean-sand). It’s like a D5 on steroids — longer battery, sapphire glass, wrist HR, GPS, and still full dive functionality. Basically works as both a dive computer and a smartwatch, which is pretty nice if you travel a lot.
