If you take the fluid goggle lense and hold it close to your eye, you can focus on an object a few cm away. That's what you'd need. Forget plastic lenses because their refractive index is too close to water.

In my copy of Diving and Subaquatic Medicine, it says hard contact lens are not safe to dive with. Bubbles can form between the lens and cornea, which will injure it.

I dive with disposable contacts all the time. Never had any problems.

I dove for years with contacts - the only recommendation my optician gave me was to use daily disposables and change them after every dive - important as I know another freediver who had serious, and I mean serious, health problems resulting in some evil surgery and loss of sight in one eye after wearing contacts in the pool, picking up an amoebic infection and continuing to wear them.

So, daily disposables are fine... but then.... I got LASERED!!! and that was unbelievably fantastic, best £3k I ever spent! I still have superb vision 3 1/2 years on and I was -6 (also known as blind as a bat)

totally, utterly recommend Lasik to anyone who can have it done.

Beg, borrow, steal the money - it is SO worth it

3 thousand pounds?! Wow, that's a lot of money! Scary. Here in Singapore it varies, but average it's about half the cost of your surgery. So if you're passing through, book an appointment!

Soft contacts are fine for diving, I wear them all the time.

I am also on the "blind as a bat" range, with -5.25 on one eye, and -6 on the other. I've been thinking about lasik for a while, but considering the cost, I am going to have to wait for quite sometime. Specially since I keep finding expensive things to do :blackeye

Right now I am using the weekly disposables, but might switch to the daily ones as i get more and more active in the ocean and in pools (I am also going to be doing kiteboarding training...which means i'll be losing these left and right)

I am doing a lot more swimming in pools these days too, so the more I think about it, those 1-day disposables are the safest route for me to go

It's got a lot cheaper now - I went to one of the classier establishments (as I was a bit scared of budget surgery) and ended up having some extra stuff as my eyes were not entirely straightforward to do. I get the feeling that very few people have eyes that fit the "advertised" rate so do check before deciding for sure! The place I went to advertises it as being about half what it eventually cost me.

Still worth it though, more than. They gave me a cheap loan to pay it over 3 years which helped.

I believe quite a while, to prevent infections developing in your eye. How long exactly depends.

I use disposable soft lenses but I reuse them - using a peroxide based cleaning solution between dives. I use them only for diving however.

While diving I wear 1-Day Acuvue Moist soft lenses. No problems at all. I put them in at the morning, and I throw them away in the evening. No moistening needed during the day.

if I remember rightly it was six weeks post op - but that was me being conservative, they were happy for me to go in sooner if I wanted to (minimum 2 weeks)

Main problem for me was that I could not wear contact lenses for 2 months before, so I had to freedive in my prescription scuba mask which was a nightmare, far too big!

I have far sight problem i have read posts but my case i can not use contact lenses is it possible if i arrange localy made lenses to be fixed to my Omer Alien. I am afraid that localy made lenses will not stand the pressure? any clue please?

I had the folks at prescriptiondivemasks.com put lenses in my Alien. They work perfectly and actually increase your field of view While reducing air volume.
