So far I've only been able to Spear in freshwater. Here in Texas we can only Spearfish for rough fish and the visibility is usually 2' to 10' feet. In an effort to up my odds for shooting carp and buffalo I started baiting with whole corn or corn. It would draw a lots of fish but it would get eaten and scattered too quickly. So I started freezing a can of whole kernel corn with it's juice in a ziplock bag. I would add a piece of jute cord (biodegradable) so I could tie my frozen Cornsicle to the bottom to keep from losing it. Fish love it! It steadily releases scent in the form of the juice and corn kernels as it melts. They're usually so focused on pecking at the treat they do not notice I am around. After a shot I try to vacate the immediate area as quickly as possible. By the time I can get rerigged and return they are usually all over the bait again. I would think this would work well in the ocean also and wouldn't be nearly as bad about drawing sharks as a chum made of blood and fish.

Right now I am near Dallas but I am shopping for a house or land to build on in The Rock Port and Aransas Pass area. I hope to be living on the coast before the end of the year.

Cool. I'm in the Temple/Belton area so if you ever need a dive buddy or plan on doing a trip out to the salt water to spear let me know!
